Wild scorecards, sadly, aren’t rare in pro golf. But going from awful to brilliant overnight? That’s much harder to find. Rory McIlroy’s 63-80 at the 2010 Open at St Andrews is a classic example.

This week on the HotelPlanner Tour, Ben Stow pulled it off in style. The 2018 tour winner opened the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge with an ugly 82, looking miles off the pace.

Here’s the prize money breakdown for each golfer at the 2025 Vierumäki Finnish Challenge

The round spiralled out of control when he dropped seven shots in his last three holes on his front nine (the course’s back nine) at the Cooke Course. By the end, he was ten over par and seemingly out of the tournament.

Less than 24 hours later, the 33-year-old Englishman turned it on with a bogey-free 63 — nine under par and tied his best round of the season. Here are both of them side by side:

That 19-shot turnaround lifted him to one over for the tournament, but it wasn’t enough to sneak into the weekend.

It’s the kind of reversal that makes you check the scorecard twice.
