Hawaii didn’t seem all that long ago, did it? You know, the PGA Tour’s season-opener at Kapalua? Yet, here we are, at the Wyndham Championship, the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Although it took four long years, Cameron Young is finally a PGA Tour champion, winning for the first time, blowing the doors off the competition by shooting a 22-under-par total to top Mac Meissner by six shots. Young earned $1.476 million from the overall $8.2 million purse. He led by nine shots at one point in the final round and made two late bogeys that didn’t matter. He moved from 40th to 16th in the FedEx Cup standings and now squarely puts himself on U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley’s radar.
Speaking of FedEx Cup, every player from Nos. 60 to 109 in the standings was in the field, to put the importance squarely into perspective. The top 70 after this week qualified for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the playoffs. Matti Schmid entered at No. 70 and leaves at No. 70 on the nose. Davis Thompson three-putted the last hole from 45 feet for bogey and ended at 71st to miss the playoffs. Gary Woodland was in and out all day and ended 72nd.
The top 100 will earn full status for 2026. That will be finalised after the fall tournaments.
