A top-three at the Masters in April, becoming a father in late May, and, on Sunday, a LIV Golf Andalucia victory at ultra-difficult Valderrama.

It’s been a busy three months for popular Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton. Clearly, it’s not been easy to stay on top of everything.

“It was pretty funny, he asked for advice on car seats the day he was leaving the hospital, which is something I thought he’d have figured out by then,” close friend Jon Rahm, Hatton’s LIV Golf and Ryder Cup European teammate, said after losing to him by two shots on Sunday. “I did tell him, any time, he can call me because I’ve been there at midnight when you don’t know what to do and you need somebody to call.”

Only two weeks after withdrawing from LIV Golf Korea so that he and wife, Emily, could welcome their first child, a competitively rusty Hatton allowed two-time major winner Rahm back into the contest, as well as Garcia, whose long career includes four victories at Valderrama and 17 top-10 results in 18 starts there.

But Hatton held on with a scrappy, one-under-par 70 giving him a total of 11 under – two shots ahead of Rahm (67). Hatton bounced back from a bogey at the sixth with a birdie at nine, and from bogeys at 10 and 12 with another birdie at 13. The 34-year-old put the tournament to bed with clutch birdies at 16 and 17 and a tricky par save at the last.

“It feels amazing that I’ve done it in my first event as a dad,” Hatton said. “I said to Emily, like one of my motivations probably moving forward is when Althea grows up, she will know that I was pretty good at golf sometimes, and I would love to continue to be able to win tournaments when she’s old enough to remember that happening.

“Yeah, it’s definitely given me a different kind of motivation with practice and what I hope to achieve in golf before obviously I get older and my best years are behind me.”

After Rahm, Abraham Ancer (68) was third at eight under, Garcia (70) was fourth at seven under, and Dustin Johnson, Thomas Detry, David Puig and Cam Smith shared fifth at five under.

The notoriously tricky Valderrama was always going to be tough for 54-hole leader Hatton to maintain his lead. Cork trees line Valderrama’s severely sloping fairways, while its small, tilted greens demand precise iron shots. Gusting winds from the nearby Sotogrande coastline add to the challenge.

“Yeah, I found today really stressful,” Hatton said of LIV Golf Andalucia, which for the first time in the event’s four-year history comes with Official World Golf Ranking points. “I feel like I hit a lot of good iron shots that didn’t end up on the green. Obviously you saw a lot of pretty angry reactions from myself, but I’m happy with how I just kept plugging away and in a sense kind of got my reward with how I finished.”

Hatton kept picturing his wife and baby girl, perhaps offering a dose of perspective as Rahm and Garcia came within one shot of his lead.

“To be honest, I thought no matter how today went, I’m still going to be home tonight, and I’ll walk in to a crying newborn, and I’ll be doing nappies tonight,” Hatton said. “That was going to happen regardless. I’m really excited to get home to Emily and our little girl.”

Valderrama, the Andalucia club famous for staging the 1997 Ryder Cup, has also hosted a multitude of DP World Tour tournaments and two World Golf Championships. “It feels surreal to win, let alone the kind of place as iconic as this,” Hatton said.

<img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-117536" class="size-full wp-image-117536" src="https://golfdigestme.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Tyrrell-Hatton-playing-his-approach-en-route-to-a-gritty-par-to-close-out-his-first-LIV-victory-since-2024.-Octavio-Passos.jpg" alt="Tyrrell Hatton playing his approach en route to a gritty par to close out his first LIV victory since 2024.
Rahm’s Legion XIII side secured a victory in the team element. Individually, the Spaniard had never looked happier finishing second.

“Obviously I had a fantastic week myself, and very happy for Tyrrell to have just become a father just over two weeks ago and having his little girl and being a proud girl dad,” Rahm said.

“As good as he is, if someone is going to beat me, there’s very few people I’ll be happy for, and he’s one of them. It was very well-earned and happy that he on and help the team as well. As far as I’m concerned, couldn’t ask for much more.”

Hatton now owns 14 professional wins, among them the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2020, eight DP World Tour titles and two LIV victories. Among his victories are lifting trophies at St. Andrews (as a three-time Dunhill victor), Bay Hill, Wentworth and now Valderrama.

Next, he heads to Shinnecock for the U.S. Open, a major he co-led through 15 holes on the final round last year at Oakmont only to fade to a T-4 finish. Hatton will no doubt be buoyed by a T-3 at the Masters and his Valderrama victory.

LIV Golf Andalucia was also the cut-off for the league’s exemption into the 154th Open Championship, which was given to the top player not already exempt from its points standings. Chile’s Joaquin Niemann finished T-24 at Valderrama, enough to lock up third in points before the deadline and secure the start at Royal Birkdale next month.

The latest headline in the LIV Golf financial saga came Thursday with news that the league has dropped one of its key live streaming features before this week’s event in Korea.

Sports Business Journal reported that LIV Golf cited a ‘strategic decision’ for the reason that it stopped “Any Shot, Any Time” as it continues to plan for a future without the help of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

The streaming feature allowed subscribers to pay $59.99 for the season—or $8.99 an event—to have access to what the title suggests, every shot from any player at any time. LIV Golf is working on refunding customers who purchased the platform.

A source told Sports Illustrated Thursday that Mobii, the company behind the streaming technology, has not been paid for months. It’s not clear if it was Mobii or LIV Golf who scrubbed the feature, but it will not be available for the remainder of the season.

RELATED: Here’s the prize money breakdown at LIV Golf Korea

LIV Golf is at Asaid Country Club in Korea this week—where Bryson DeChambeau, Scott Vincent and Charles Howell III lead after Round 1—its eighth tournament of the season. Jon Rahm, the season points leader, tied for second place two weeks ago at the PGA Championship. The league only has five regular season events remaining before the team championship in Michigan ends the tumultuous year in late August.

After news broke just after the Masters in April that LIV Golf would not have PIF funding beyond this year, the New Orleans event scheduled for late June at Bayou Oaks at City Park was postponed, saying that a new fall date would be targeted. However, there has been no movement on that and it is not mentioned on the LIV Golf website schedule.

CEO Scott O’Neil contends that the league will continue after this year in some form. In the past weeks headlines have ranged from LIV Golf potentially being reduced to a 10-event schedule, to it seeking $250 million from investors, to it potentially laying the groundwork for filing for bankruptcy.

As uncertainty surrounds LIV Golf, Bryson DeChambeau is adamant he’ll use his star power to help the league raise investment after acknowledging that the decision from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to withdraw funding after 2026 came as a “surprise.”

Last month, the PIF confirmed it would not finance LIV beyond the 2026 season, following a reported spend of between $5 billion and $8 billion since the league launched in 2022.

PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan also stepped down as chairman of LIV’s board in the wake of the withdrawal. The league has since installed Gene Davis and Jon Zinman to lead a restructured board, describing them as “seasoned experts with proven track records for navigating complex situations and unlocking value for global organisations.”

LIV, which postponed an event in Louisiana, scheduled for June, to a slated Fall date, continues this week in South Korea at the Asiad Country Club in the coastal region of Busan. The eighth event of LIV’s 2026 season comes after reports that the league is laying the groundwork to file for bankruptcy.

The league is pressing on, pitching a 10-event schedule to potential investors having officially entered the marketplace this week via New York-based Ducera Partners.

It is believed the target for investment is between $250 million and $350 million, while a new-look version of the league would extend equity beyond just the team captains and will have an emphasis on team golf.

Sources said more than 12 players provided introductions to potential investors, for both the league and its teams.

With all this as context, DeChambeau was asked by reporters about the PIF’s withdrawal from LIV and his optimism for new investment when he spoke with media on Tuesday.

“We were surprised that they pulled out as quickly as they did,” DeChambeau said. “We didn’t really see that coming. But that’s OK. One door closes, another opens. I think that’s the way a lot of us are looking at it. I think we all have optimism that there is a business plan that makes sense for team golf.

“I’m very optimistic with the business plan of team golf compared to other models, in my opinion.”

DeChambeau expanded on how team golf could be a point of differentiation and a catalyst for LIV to survive.

“Other models have worked, as well, so I’m not going to say that one is better than the other. But I do see value in what team golf can provide not only worldwide but also in grass rooting the game of golf. National support, team national support, city local support, we grass root ourselves there. There’s a couple ideas that we have … quite a few ideas that we have that could be interesting.

“We’ll see if investors like it or not. I’m giving all I can to make it happen, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t happen.”

DeChambeau, who won last year’s LIV Golf Korea, was asked how he manages to focus while the league tries to secure its future.

“I go out there on the first tee on Thursday and hit a beautiful drive down the middle of the fairway, hopefully,” DeChambeau said in Korea. “That’s what we’re focused on. In the background, yeah, we’re trying to help where we can, but ultimately, it’s up to executives and everybody banding together. If we all band together, there’s an opportunity here. If not, it’s going to be a different day for all of us.”

If his performance on the course is a way to decipher whether the future of LIV has been a distraction for DeChambeau, the results have been mixed. He won consecutive LIV events in Singapore and South Africa leading into the Masters, only to miss the cut at Augusta National. He finished third at LIV Golf Virginia then missed the weekend rounds at the PGA Championship at Aronimink.

Chasing a third major after U.S. Open victories in 2020 and 2024, DeChambeau is hopeful of turning his form around in time to challenge for another title at Shinnecock before wrapping up major season at the Open Championship in July at Royal Birkdale.

“I’m playing some solid golf; I’m working on my golf swing quite hard, trying to get back to that 58 level at Greenbrier [he shot 58 during his LIV Golf Greenbrier win in 2023] when I just had this golf swing that was so easy,” DeChambeau said.

“The weeks that I’ve been playing in major championships, I’ve been playing OK, just having nothing happen for me, and that’s kind of the game of golf,” he continued. “The weeks before that I played really well going into them. I won two events going into the Masters and then finished third in Virginia. So it’s not like I’m playing bad golf. I think I’m putting some pressure on myself to play well in those tournaments, and that’s the reality. Nobody is perfect, and I’m still working hard to play as good as I possibly can, and the year before I played really well in the majors, missed one cut there, and it just happens.

“That’s golf, and ultimately excited for the opportunities I have moving forward. There isn’t any quit in me, as you can see. Even at Aronimink, I birdied my first last three holes trying to make the cut there, and it is what it is.

“I’ll tell you this: I played worse golf and shot better scores at majors. It’s one of those scenarios of ebbs and flows in golf. I’m really excited for the future over at Shinnecock and overseas, as well, for the Open Championship. Head down, keep moving forward.”

LIV Golf is pitching a reduced 10-event schedule to potential investors as it seeks new financial backing following Saudi Arabia’s withdrawal of support, according to multiple reports.

Sportico and CNBC report that a pitch deck outlines a plan built around international events, with attendance figures from Australia and South Africa used as benchmarks. The league is seeking $250 to $350 million to continue operations and is projecting profitability within three years. Axios reported earlier this week that LIV was targeting profitability in 20 months. In a February interview with the Financial Times, CEO Scott O’Neil said profitability could be five to 10 years away, and in a since-deleted on-air comment, O’Neil said the league had funding only through the end of 2026.

Bloomberg reported this week that LIV is also laying groundwork for a potential bankruptcy filing. In response, a LIV spokesperson told Golf Digest: “LIV Golf is firmly focused on securing a transaction that positions the organization for the long-term. As we begin presenting our go-forward business plan to prospective capital partners, we are focused on achieving a sustainable future and there are multiple pathways under active exploration. We continue to see great momentum on the course and with support through the 2026 season and a clear plan to raise capital, leadership is focused on identifying the right long-term strategic partners who believe in our mission to grow the game of golf worldwide. These conversations are just getting underway, and as they progress, the company expects to gain further clarity around the structure and timing of a potential transaction.”

Golf Digest has reported that agents for several LIV players have begun contacting the PGA Tour about paths back. Few are expected to receive exemptions comparable to the one extended to Brooks Koepka. Players who joined LIV’s antitrust lawsuit against the tour face additional hurdles, with further discipline a possibility. Bryson DeChambeau, the league’s highest-profile player, becomes a free agent after August and has said publicly he is open to pursuing a career as a full-time content creator.

Last month, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced a strategic pivot toward domestic programs, ending its financial commitment to LIV. The fund had invested an estimated $5 to $8 billion in the league since its 2021 launch. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor who served as LIV’s chairman, resigned following the withdrawal. The league has since installed Gene Davis and Jon Zinman to lead a restructured board.

LIV has already postponed one event this season, citing summer heat and the World Cup. Its next event is scheduled for South Korea beginning May 28.

LIV Golf is laying the groundwork to potentially file for bankruptcy, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Last month, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund pulled the plug on the five-year-old league, announcing a strategic pivot toward domestic programs and away from global ventures that had failed to generate returns. The cost of the experiment was an estimated $5 to $8 billion injected into LIV since its 2021 launch. Yasir Al-Rumayyan—PIF governor, LIV’s architect, and chairman of its board—resigned in the wake of the withdrawal. The league has since installed Gene Davis and Jon Zinman to lead a restructured board, describing them as “seasoned experts with proven track records for navigating complex situations and unlocking value for global organisations.”

Earlier this year, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil acknowledged that breaking even could still be a decade away. In a since-deleted comment on a LIV broadcast, he said the league had funding only through the end of 2026.

On Monday, Axios reported that LIV is now seeking $250 million in fresh investment, with O’Neil projecting profitability within two years, a sharp reversal from his earlier timeline. But Bloomberg’s reporting states the league is weighing a headquarters relocation to the United States to take advantage of its more favourable bankruptcy restructuring laws. LIV currently operates across multiple jurisdictions — the U.K., the U.S., and the island of Jersey—with its ultimate controlling entity remaining in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is a preferred destination for foreign debtors because its bankruptcy framework shields companies from creditors in other jurisdictions who might otherwise seize assets or enforce judgments.

In response to Bloomberg’s report, a LIV spokesperson told Golf Digest, “LIV Golf is firmly focused on securing a transaction that positions the organisation for the long-term.

As LIV faces an unknown future, Golf Digest has reported that agents for several LIV players have begun reaching out to the PGA Tour about paths back. Few are expected to receive anything resembling the unconditional exemption extended to Brooks Koepka. Those who joined LIV’s antitrust lawsuit against the Tour face a harder road still, with additional discipline a real possibility.

On the course, LIV has already postponed one event this season. Its marquee attraction, Bryson DeChambeau, missed the cut at the PGA Championship for the second consecutive major, although Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith both contended at Aronimink.

LIV Golf’s next scheduled event is in two weeks in South Korea.

The list seems to be growing of LIV golfers who say they have no interest in returning to the PGA Tour if their circuit goes away.

Anirban Lahiri. Doug Defelice/LIV Golf

India’s Anirban Lahiri told The Times of London on Thursday he knows of “at least a dozen players who’d rather not play golf than go back to the PGA Tour.”

Belgian Thomas Pieters said recently he’d retire before going back to the American circuit. And, of course, there’s the case of Bryson DeChambeau, explained expertly today by our Joel Beall.

Rory McIlroy – Ben Jared

For all of them, Rory McIlroy had an unsubtle message after his Friday round in the Truist. The Ulsterman demurred on most questions about LIV and is heartened that some players might return to his “home” DP World Tour. But for those throwing shade on the PGA Tour, McIlroy had this: “If you want to be the most competitive golfer you can be, this is the place to be. And if you don’t want to play here, I think that says something about you.”

Mic drop. Press conference over.

Bryson DeChambeau says he’s prepared to focus on his YouTube channel should LIV Golf fold after the season.

In an interview with ESPN’s Mark Schlabach at LIV Golf’s event outside Washington D.C., DeChambeau admitted that he was caught off guard regarding Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund pulling funding for LIV. “I was completely shocked,” DeChambeau said. “I didn’t expect it to happen. A couple months before that, it’s like, ‘We’re here until 2032. We’ve got financing until 2032,’ and so I told everybody, and that’s what I was told. And then, you know, I haven’t had any communication. And unfortunately, things are moving on in a different direction. Obviously, they wanted to move on.”

As Golf Digest reported last week, representatives for several LIV players have reached out to PGA Tour officials about rejoining the league, only to discover that former LIV members will not receive the same grace extended to Brooks Koepka. The Athletic and other outlets have reported DeChambeau is among those players. However, as noted in our piece, not only has the Koepka exemption gone, but as one of the 11 players that sued the PGA Tour, DeChambeau would face tougher discipline than others.

DeChambeau seemed to acknowledge as much with ESPN. Perhaps that’s why DeChambeau insinuated that the PGA Tour “isn’t doing great either.”

“Let’s be honest about the situation,” DeChambeau claimed. “They’ve got the media. They’ve got everybody on the side that helps pump it up. But they’re reducing field sizes, cutting employees and restructuring their business too.”

Given a reunion with the PGA Tour seems unlikely, DeChambeau asserted that in a non-LIV future, his new focus would be his own content.

“I think, from my perspective, I’d love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more,” DeChambeau said. “I would love to. I’d love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch YouTube. And then I’d love to play tournaments that want me.”

Aside from LIV’s uncertain future, DeChambeau’s LIV contract runs out after 2026. On Tuesday, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil was asked about the importance of locking DeChambeau up before trying to bring new investors in. ““Well, that’s an interesting question,” O’Neil said. “I’m not sure. We’ll sort through and work through. I appreciate the question. Bryson’s special. He’s different and special. … He’s smart, he’s driven, he’s committed, and he’s a heck of a partner.”

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil faced reporters at LIV Golf Virginia for the first time since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund confirmed last week it would no longer fund the league after 2026 – and that the PIF governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, had stepped down as LIV Golf’s chairman.

In that time, LIV’s scheduled event for Louisiana in June was postponed until the fall. LIV also unveiled a new board led by Gene Davis and Jon Zinman.

Now readying for the sixth event of a turbulent season, O’Neil spoke to the press at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C. His session came a day after the league announced it had retained Ducera Partners LLC as its investment banking advisor to find investment partners.

“Was I surprised? I don’t know, it’s hard to even think about that moment,” O’Neil said about when he learned PIF would cease funding after 2026. “So I’d rather not comment on how I actually felt, my emotion. I can tell you that it was very clear 18 months ago that for this to be a growing concern, we were going to have to make significant and substantive changes in terms of the way we do business.

“Guys, remember, when my phone rings, it never is the case that everything is going well. I am not a status quo manager. I never have been. Like this is what I do … so, it would be naive to be surprised, and it would be irresponsible to be thinking anything else other than how far we have to go to make sure that we can continue to grow this game around the world.”

O’Neil was also asked about the possibility of prize purses being significantly reduced from the current offering of $30 million per event—$20 million for the individual tournament purse and $10 million for the team portion.

“I definitely will not be talking through specifics of the plan, but it’s a pretty—it’s a playbook that won’t surprise too many people once you see it,” O’Neil said. “We have a good runway through this season fortunately, and it’s for next year that we’re going to be making some pretty significant, substantive changes. If you can piece together what I’ve said over the last six months, there won’t be too much surprise in terms of what you find.”

Hector Vivas

As LIV restructures, a pertinent question becomes how it can retain its biggest names if the prize purses were reduced; LIV counts Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith among its group.

“Our view of what got the players here—I wasn’t here when most of the players came in—I have been here when players have come in, and they’re coming for very different reasons,” O’Neil said. “I’d encourage [you to] ask them why they’re here. Some of them, sure, came for money. Others are here for very different reasons, and I appreciate that.

“You’ve got 57 players from 21 different countries all looking for something in their lives … others are chasing fame, others are chasing legacy and career, others are looking for more predictability and a schedule. There are a whole host of others that want to travel the world. So, I definitely don’t want to take 57 guys and pigeonhole them into what they care about. I think that would be irresponsible.”

If LIV golfers were to supplement their schedules with other tours, O’Neil said he would not stand in their way. On Tuesday, Rahm announced he and the DP World Tour had come to an agreement for the Spaniard to continue playing on the European circuit after settling his fines for playing in conflicting events.

“We have never, since our inception, ever restricted our players,” O’Neil said. “That’s from bans, from fines, not us. Nope, go play where you want to play. We believe in free golf, free agency of golf.

“We believe that players should play when they want and where they want so long as they sign up for these 14, and we’ll be sticking to that.”

One topic O’Neil was somewhat clearer on was whether there will be competitive changes to the league in 2027.

“We’ve changed pretty dramatically in my two seasons here, and I’ve been on the record saying the format changes won’t stop, and we’ll continue to evolve to optimise the business,” O’Neil said. “So I would not be surprised to see a continued evolution in our format.”

Finally, O’Neil was queried about LIV’s biggest drawcard, two-time U.S. Open champion DeChambeau.

“You want to talk about a business partner, we’re literally talking about the future of LIV Golf, I’m talking with him about how does he see, not just the golf, but the business,” O’Neil said. “He’s smart, he’s driven, he’s committed, and he’s a heck of a partner.”

“LIV Golf has built something truly differentiated – a global league with passionate fans, world-class talent, and demonstrated commercial momentum,” said Gene Davis, Chairman of the Independent Directors Committee. “The executive leadership team, along with Jon and I, see a clear opportunity to help the league formalise its structure, attract and secure long-term capital, and position the business for growth while continuing to promote the game across the world. We look forward to positioning LIV Golf for future success.”

LIV Golf released a statement claiming that the 2026 season has produced record-breaking engagement and a 100% increase in revenue year over year.

Jon Rahm will take a two-shot lead into the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City after posting back-to-back rounds of 67 to reach 14 under par at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

Here’s the prize money payout at 2026 LIV Golf Mexico City

It is the fifth time the Spaniard has held the 54-hole lead on the LIV Golf League circuit and he will once again be the man to catch on Sunday.

Rahm will be joined in the final group by Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton, who carded a five-under 66 to move into solo second on 12 under. It marks the first time the pair have been grouped together in the final round since joining LIV Golf ahead of the 2024 season.

A further shot back, Tom McKibbin is tied for third at 11 under alongside Branden Grace, leaving both players firmly within striking distance heading into the final round. McKibbin’s position means three Legion XIII players sit inside the top three on the leaderboard.

Just behind them, a group of five players are tied at 10 under, including Harold Varner III, Josele Ballester, David Puig, Scott Vincent and Matthew Wolff, ensuring a tightly packed chasing group with plenty of scoring potential on a course that has already produced low numbers.

Puig delivered the standout performance of the third round, firing a nine-under 62 to surge up the leaderboard. The Spaniard’s round left him just one shot shy of the course record.

Rahm’s consistency has been a key feature of his week, with the Legion XIII captain extending his run to eight consecutive rounds in the 60s. He has now broken 70 in 21 of his 23 rounds this season.

Legion XIII also hold a commanding advantage in the team event, taking a 15-shot lead into the final round as they look to convert their strong position into victory.
