The LPGA and JM Eagle LA Championship said the tournament will return to Wilshire Country Club next April now that a long renovation project at the course has been completed.

The last two editions were held at El Caballero C.C. in the suburb of Tarzana. Wilshire is known for its celebrity members, including Will Farrell, Jack Nicholson, Ray Romano and Mark Wahlberg. Howard Hughes was a member until getting kicked out for landing his plane on a fairway when he was late for a date with Katharine Hepburn.

The LPGA took last week off. Hey, everyone is a fan of watching the Masters. But it was back in California for the second time this year, playing at the JM Eagle LA Championship at El Caballero Country Club northwest of Los Angeles.

Some of the biggest news was make Saturday during the third round for two reasons. First, Sei Young Kim opened a whopping eight-shot lead. Secondly, it was announced that the tournament purse was raised an extra $1 million on the spot, making it the largest purse on tour outside of majors or the CME Group Tour Championship.

Kim, however, did not go on to win, although she was in a playoff. Hannah Green birdied five of six holes to come storming back and joined Kim and Jin Hee Im in a playoff which Green would win on the first hole with a birdie. It’s now the third time she’s won this event, following victories in 2023 and 2024. Green took home $712,500 for her eighth victory on tour. Kim and Im each earned $386,536.

The LPGA now heads to the Chevron Championship in Houston for its first major of the year.

On the eve of the first women’s major championship of 2025, the LPGA has an impressive rookie winner to rave about claiming her maiden tour victory. Sweden’s Ingrid Lindblad, a former college player of the year at LSU, shot a closing 67 at El Caballero Country Club to beat fellow first-year LPGA pro Akie Iwai by one shot at the JM Eagle LA Championship, claiming her first tour title.

The overall purse was a $3.75 million purse with Lindblad, in just her third start as an official tour member, taking home $562,500 for a victory.

Swedish rookie Ingrid Lindblad wore a friendship bracelet that said: “be where your feet are.”

It was a gift from her former LSU assistant golf coach, Alexis Rather, to be your confident self. And Lindblad did just that.

Lindblad shot a final-round four-under 68 to win the JM Eagle LA Championship at 21-under for her first LPGA victory.

Ingrid Lindblad's winning moment pic.twitter.com/1JHvoVEqUt

— LPGA (@LPGA) April 21, 2025

It came down to the wire at El Caballero Country Club for the former top-ranked amateur in the world. Lindblad entered the day as a three-way co-leader and waited — but didn’t watch — as fellow rookie Akie Iwai needed to get up-and-down to save par to force a playoff. Iwai missed her putt and bogeyed.

Lindblad, 25, had been thinking about winning after a five-year All-American career at LSU and then a stint on the Epson Tour in which she won once last year.

“I said winning wasn’t such a crazy goal,” Lindblad said. “I said that maybe two to three times to media, and here we are. I might need to put up some more goals.”

Here’s the prize money payout for each golfer at the LPGA’s 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship

What a time for a win, as Lindblad heads into the LPGA Tour’s first major of the season, the Chevron Challenge at The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas.

She also won’t have to qualify to get into the U.S. Women’s Open, as this win puts her in the field at Erin Hills Golf Course.

After the win, Lindblad hugged her mom, Cecilia, and they both cried tears of joy. Her mom just arrived to the U.S. from Sweden one week ago to travel with Lindblad for a month. Talk about good timing.

Then Swede Madelene Sagstrom, who won the T-Mobile Match Play Championship [the previous event] waited to see if Lindblad would win so she could congratulate her. She popped the cork on a bottle of champagne and doused the already-bubbly Lindblad.

“I just got a text from Alexis, our assistant coach, and it’s just wonderful,” Sagstrom said. “I know how good she is. This was always going to happen, but it’s so nice to see it.”

Sagstrom then guided Cecilia out to the 18th green for the trophy presentation. It was 21 years ago at “El Cab,” that fellow countrywoman Annika Sorenstam won the last time the LPGA Tour was here. It was her 50th win in a Hall of Fame career that would see her win 72 times.

And now another Swedish golfer has begun her career with a win.

Lindblad walked around El Caballero Country Club with the confidence of a veteran though she’s a rookie. There’s a swagger about this rookie class. Lindblad is the second rookie to win on tour this season, following Rio Takeda’s victory in the Blue Bayou LPGA. Akie Iwai has now finished second twice.

“I think it’s pretty good competition. It was really good competition out on Epson Tour last year, too,” Lindblad said. “Just shows that the rookies, I mean, we’re not here to mess around. We come out here for a reason, and I think it shows that we’re ready to be out here.

Lindblad earned $562,500 for the win. After Saturday’s third round in which she held the co-lead, Lindblad thought about upgrading her and her mom’s seats to first class if she won. She checked, and they were already taken.

“It’s unbelievable,” Cecilia said. “I didn’t believe it. It’s been a long journey. She’s been taking it step by step. She started at 5 years old and has had the same pro.”

Lindblad has designs on winning more After all, she’s following in the footsteps of Sorenstam. And, she’s got that motto on her bracelet.

There was no drama in Hollywood at Hannah Green’s title defence of the JM Eagle LA Championship. Unlike her playoff victory last year, Green won by three Sunday over Maja Stark with a steady five-under 67 to win at 12-under-par total. The Australian ran away from the field with a five-under-par stretch on the back nine to seal her second victory of the season. Here is how Green defended her title.

Leaderboard

Win: Hannah Green (-12)

2: Maja Stark (-9)

3: Hae Ran Ryu (-6)

T-4: Jin Young Ko (-5)

T-4: Jin Hee Im (-5)

What it means

Put simply, Green dominates at Wilshire Country Club. Only three players have beaten the 27-year-old at the course since 2021: she finished T-3 in 2021, runner-up in 2022, and won the last two seasons.

Green became the second multi-time winner on tour this season, having also won the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March. Nelly Korda, of course, is the only multi-winner this year, now deep in the middle of a five-in-a-row win streak. Green is the first player to defend a title since Jin Young Ko at last year’s HSBC Championship. This year is Green’s second multi-victory season, following 2019 when she won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. This is Green’s fifth career win.

Green’s title is the ninth of 10 events this year won by past tour winners. It marks a continued reversion to the mean from the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, which had 11 and 12 first-time winners, respectively.

How it happened

Grace Kim’s difficult 76-77 weekend let the field back in. The 2023 Lotte Championship winner held a four-stroke lead at 12 under par on Saturday morning and was tied for the 54-hole lead with Green. Kim fell out of contention with four bogeys on the front nine Sunday, ending up at T-25 (-1).

Green went out in even Sunday as the rest of the field didn’t advance on her seven-under lead. She started her break away from the pack with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th.

A chip in to extend her lead @hannahgreengolf is in her element right now pic.twitter.com/hnz83ISOgx

— LPGA (@LPGA) April 28, 2024

“I think when I chipped in on 12, I kind of felt like I really snagged one there,” Green said. She followed up with another birdie on the par-5 13th for the first two-stroke lead of the back nine.

Stark trailed Green and Kim by a stroke at the start of the final round, continuing her strong play after a runner-up performance at the Chevron Championship. Like Green, Stark played the front nine at even par. The Swede birdied the par-5 13th and got lucky on the par-5 15th. She thinned her bunker shot from behind the green off the flagstick, and somehow the ball ended three feet from the pin. The birdie brought her back within a stroke at eight under.

But just as soon as Stark got close, Green effectively won the tournament. She eagled the 459-yard 15th with a 20-footer from the fringe while Stark bogeyed from the greenside bunker on the 16th in front of her, building a four-stroke edge.

An eagle from range @hannahgreengolf is cruising towards a victory here in LA pic.twitter.com/uOC7O8HjAG

— LPGA (@LPGA) April 29, 2024

“When I made eagle on 15, that kind of sealed the deal,” Green said. “And I did see that Maja got it to nine under. So I knew what I needed to do to do.”

Green punctuated the charge with a birdie on the 16th, capping off a five-under run to separate herself from the field. With the tournament in Green’s hand after parring the 18th, she was greeted by raucous chants of “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie” from the fans surrounding the green.

Green’s chance to make it three-in-a-row at Wilshire Country Club will be delayed until 2026, as the course will undergo renovations and will not host the JM Eagle next year.

Quotable

“It’s [the course] really kind to me,” Green said. “I felt like a couple of times today, I almost got like a member bounce. I obviously am really fond of the golf club and I joked and said that they didn’t actually approve it with me that they’re making alterations, but no, I love it here. Such a great atmosphere, really good crowds this year. So yeah, I’m kind of sad we’re not returning next year, but I’m looking forward to 2026.”

Best of the rest

World No. 7 Jin Young Ko (T-3) carded a bogey-free four-under 67 Sunday to leap up the leaderboard from T-21 for her best finish of the season.

Haeran Ryu posted her third straight top 10, including a T-9 at the LPGA Match Play and a fifth-place finish at the Chevron Championship.
