Moroccan star Ayoub Lguirati will spearhead a strong local and regional contingent at this week’s International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco, as some of the brightest emerging talents from Morocco and the wider MENA region prepare to test themselves against a world-class field at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

The US$ 2 million event, taking place from 11-14 June in Rabat, features Major champions Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia, LIV Golf stars Abraham Ancer and Branden Grace, defending champion Scott Vincent, and leading players from the Asian Tour.

For Lguirati, the opportunity arrives at the perfect time. One of Morocco’s most recognisable professional golfers, he has been a regular presence since the inaugural International Series Morocco in 2022 when he became the only local player to make the cut and finished tied-28th against a stacked international field.

He returns in some of the best form of his career after recording a personal-best finish on the Asian Tour, tying for 13th at last week’s am green IGPL Bharath Classic in El Jadida.

“It’s a great feeling and a real privilege; The International Series Morocco is a very special tournament for me. “ said Lguirati.

“As a Moroccan player competing on the Asian Development Tour, this is exactly the kind of opportunity I am looking for. The field is very strong, the level is high, and playing here at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam always gives me extra motivation.”

Lguirati believes the recent run of professional tournaments in Morocco has created meaningful opportunities for local players to develop and compete at a higher level.

“It means a lot, the recent events played in Morocco, in partnership with the Asian Tour and IGPL, have created a strong dynamic for local professional players and across the region.” he added.

“For us, it is very important to have opportunities to compete at home against international fields, gain experience and be exposed to a higher level of competition. Earning a place in International Series Morocco through this pathway shows how valuable these events can be.

“It also reflects the momentum created by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation by bringing tournaments of this level to Morocco and creating the right conditions for Moroccan players to compete, progress and connect with major international circuits.”

Joining Lguirati in the field are six fellow Moroccan talents eager to make their mark on home soil.

Among them is El Mehdi Fakori, who made the cut at last week’s am green IGPL Bharath Classic and finished two-under-par for the tournament. Fakori also competed at International Series Morocco in 2025 and returns with valuable experience at this level.

Ayoub Id-Omar earns another opportunity after making his International Series debut in 2024. He was Morocco’s leading performer at the am green IGPL Morocco Rising Stars, finishing tied-31st at four-under-par.

Amateurs Hugo Trommetter and Youssef El Hali continue their progression after regularly representing Morocco throughout 2024 and 2025, while fellow amateurs Nizar Bourehim and Abderrahmane Fakori will make their International Series debuts. Bourehim arrives as winner of The Hrnčiar Championship, where Fakori recorded an impressive eighth-place finish.

The regional representation extends beyond Morocco, with Faisal Salhab, Othman Almulla, Khalid Attieh, Shergo Al Kurdi and Saud Al Sharif representing Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ahmad Skaik – Ross Kinnaird / Getty Images

The United Arab Emirates will be represented by Ahmad Skaik, while Qatar’s Daniil Sokolov returns to The International Series stage. Still only 15 years old, Sokolov made headlines when he competed in his home International Series event as a 13-year-old in 2024.

Their participation forms part of a unique three-week professional golf swing in Morocco, beginning on the Asian Development Tour before progressing through last week’s Asian Tour event at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, where Sweden’s Charlie Lindh claimed victory.

The journey culminates in Rabat, where local and regional hopefuls will have the opportunity to compete alongside some of the biggest names in world golf on the global stage of The International Series.

The Asian Development Tour’s (ADT) eagerness to return to Morocco for the am green IGPL Morocco Rising Stars tournament this week has been reflected by the best possible field entering – with all four winners from this year and nine from the top 10 on the Order of Merit competing.

Khavish Varadan – Asian Development Tour

Singaporean Nicklaus Chiam, the Merit list leader and winner of the season-opening PKNS Selangor Masters, Khavish Varadan, the Malaysian who claimed the Nam A Bank Vietnam Masters, Thailand’s Amarin Kraivixien, who was triumphant at the Singha-SAT ADT Hua Hin Championship, and Indian Pukhraj Singh Gill, the ADT Players Championship presented by The R&A champion, have all made the trip.

It’s the fifth stop of the season on the ADT and tees off on Thursday at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, boasting prizemoney of US$160,000. The spectacular venue, located in El Jadida City, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, will also host next week’s am green IGPL Bharath Classic.

Thailand’s Runchanapong Youprayong and Poom Pattaropong, Indonesian Jonathan Wijono, Filipino Sean Ramos and Michele Ortolani from Italy, are the other players in the top 10 playing.

The ADT made a successful debut in Morocco last year with back-to-back Morocco Rising Stars events, won by Filipino cousins Aidric Chan and Carl Jano Corpus and both players are back this week.

This year’s trip to North Africa has added significance as the event is being joint-sanctioned with the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) – the exciting new franchise that is taking the world’s populous country by storm.

India’s Sachin Baisoya, their number one ranked played, is joined by a stellar field that includes his countrymen Veer Ganapathy and Aman Raj – ranked third and fifth respectively. Gill is in sixth position.

A total of 19 Moroccan players will line-up, led by the country’s number one player Ayoub Lguirati.

Next week’s am green IGPL Bharath Classic is another joint-sanctioned event, between the Asian Tour and the IGPL.

It promises to be a memorable two weeks at a stunning venue. Set alongside the stunning Atlantic Ocean coastline, Mazagan’s world-renowned 18-hole course is designed by legend Gary Player.

The International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco will bring the exciting North African adventure to a conclusion in three weeks.

This week the Ladies European Tour (LET) was in Rabat, Morocco, for the 29th staging of the Lalla Meryem Cup and a prize purse of €450,000.

The 54-hole tournament took place on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam and marked the 11th stop of the 2026 LET season.

As with the previous three editions, the 2026 Lalla Meryem Cup ran parallel with the Trophée Hassan II on the PGA Tour Champions, which took place on the Red Course.

The par-73 Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is located fifteen minutes from the centre of Rabat. It featured fast, undulating greens and narrow fairways.

Kelsey Bennett continued her excellent form on Friday at the Lalla Meryem Cup, firing a flawless 65 (-8) to move to 13-under par and take pole position heading into the final round.

Anna Huang overcame a six-shot deficit on Saturday at the Lalla Meryem Cup firing a sensational 66 (-7) to claim her third Ladies European Tour title.

The 17-year-old Canadian carded six birdies and one eagle on Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Blue Course to pip overnight leader Kelsey Bennett to the title by one shot on 14-under par.

The 54-hole tournament takes place between 21-23 May on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. It marks the 11th stop of the 2026 LET season with a purse of €450,000 on offer in North Africa.

As with the past three editions, the 2026 Lalla Meryem Cup will run parallel with the Trophée Hassan II on the PGA Tour Champions which takes place over on the Red Course.

England’s Cara Gainer was victorious last time out defeating India’s Diksha Dagar in a playoff to claim her long-awaited first LET win. Gainer is back in Morocco to defend her title with 2017 winner Klara Davidson Spilkova from the Czech Republic also featuring.

The pair are part of a 132-player field in Rabat which features 36 nationalities and 37 LET winners.

This includes 2025 Order of Merit winner Shannon Tan from Singapore, as well South Africa’s Casandra Alexander who leads this year’s season-long race following a fifth runner-up finish of the season at last week’s Amundi German Masters. Alexander is the highest ranked player in the field sitting 34th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

The winner of last week’s event, Germany’s Leonie Harm, also tees up following her dramatic home win in Hamburg on Sunday. England’s Esme Hamilton, France’s Agathe Laisne and Australia’s Kelsey Bennett also feature having picked up victories this season.

On the home front, Maha Haddioui leads the Moroccan charge as her nation’s highest ranked player. Haddioui, currently 40th on the LET Order of Merit, is joined by six other Moroccans who are all invites at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. This includes amateur Sofia Cherif Essakali who in 2023 made the cut in this event aged just 13-years-old. The full field can be found here.

The par-73 Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is located fifteen minutes from the centre of Rabat. It features fast, undulating greens and narrow fairways.

Entering its 29th edition, the Lalla Meryem Cup has a rich history with past champions including Dame Laura Davies (2008), Charley Hull (2014), Gwladys Nocera (2007, 2015), Maja Stark (2023) and Bronte Law (2024).
