Dubai-based real estate and hospitality investor Select Group has expanded its footprint in Britain’s golf tourism sector with the acquisition of three UK golf resorts from owners backed by global investment giants KKR and Baupost Group.

Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club

The deal includes Delta Hotels Breadsall Priory Country Club, Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club and Delta Hotels Tudor Park Country Club — all operated by Marriott International under its Delta Hotels brand.

Together, the resorts comprise 380 hotel rooms across more than 900 acres of countryside estate, further strengthening Select Group’s growing UK leisure portfolio. The Dubai-headquartered company now controls five UK golf resorts with more than 530 rooms, following earlier acquisitions of Old Thorns Hotel & Resort in Hampshire and The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Cheshire.

Delta Hotels Tudor Park Country Club

While the value of the latest transaction was undisclosed, property data linked to the previous sale of the assets suggests the three resorts were collectively valued at close to £39 million in 2024. Breadsall Priory reportedly changed hands for £9.8 million, Tudor Park for £10.9 million and St. Pierre for £18.2 million as part of a wider £869 million UK hotel portfolio deal involving KKR and Baupost.

Founded in Dubai in 2002, Select Group has become one of the UAE’s most prominent private developers, delivering more than 20 million sq ft of residential and mixed-use projects across the UAE, Europe and the UK. Its developments include Six Senses Residences Dubai Marina and the Peninsula waterfront project in Business Bay.

The acquisition also underlines growing Gulf investor appetite for UK hospitality assets, particularly golf and wellness resorts, which are increasingly viewed as resilient long-term investments tied to experiential travel trends.

Israr Liaqat, chief executive of Select Group, described the UK golf resort sector as “a compelling long-term asset class”, citing the resorts’ established brands, large estates and loyal customer bases.

Select Group said it plans to invest in operational upgrades across the three properties, including enhancements to golf operations, wellness facilities, events and guest experience, while Marriott International will continue to manage the resorts.

Industry forecasts estimate the global golf tourism market will grow from US$24.8 billion in 2026 to US$39.2 billion by 2036, driven by rising demand for integrated leisure and wellness destinations.

The Trump administration and National Links Trust have reached a deal to keep Washington D.C.’s three municipal golf courses open and affordable, while clearing the way for President Trump to remake historic East Potomac Golf Links to his liking.

As Golf Digest reported earlier this year, Trump moved to wrest control of East Potomac from the National Links Trust, the nonprofit that secured a 50-year lease during his first term to operate the three D.C. public courses. NLT’s plan called for restoring the courses’ architecture and improving services without raising costs—work to be led by some of the game’s most respected designers: Tom Doak, Gil Hanse, Jim Wagner, and Beau Welling.

Trump had other ideas. Sources tell Golf Digest the president wants to transform East Potomac, which commands sweeping views of the capital and the Potomac River, into a major championship or Ryder Cup venue, and use it as a counterargument to the golf ball rollback. As Golf Digest reported, the administration muscled onto the properties, at one point dumping demolition debris from the East Wing onto the course. On January 1, it terminated NLT’s lease on grounds one NLT official described as “genuinely one of the most ridiculous and disappointing things I’ve ever read.”

The termination left East Potomac, Langston, and Rock Creek in limbo. An advocacy group sued over environmental violations tied to the debris. Last week brought an emergency hearing after reports surfaced that East Potomac faced immediate closure. The Washington Post reported that a group called the National Garden of American Heroes Foundation had been circulating fundraising materials linked to two priorities: the National Garden of American Heroes and a “comprehensive redevelopment and restoration” of East Potomac. Meanwhile, Golf Digest had reported that Tom Fazio, designer of four Trump courses, toured East Potomac under an alias in late 2025. Public records show that same afternoon he visited the White House and stayed more than three hours.

Over the weekend, the two sides announced a settlement. The three courses remain under NLT’s jurisdiction for now, while Trump gets his redesign and Fazio will overhaul East Potomac. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum will oversee the project. The National Park Service will renovate East Potomac Golf Links and undertake broader infrastructure improvements across East Potomac Park, including rebuilding a seawall that could cost upwards of $600 million.

In a statement, NLT said: “We are pleased that Washington, DC’s municipal golf courses—East Potomac Golf Links, Langston Golf Course, and Rock Creek Park Golf—will remain open, accessible, and affordable for the residents and communities that depend on them. National Links Trust will continue operating all three courses, and we are committed to building on the progress we have made over the past five years. We are grateful that our talented and dedicated employees can now look forward with certainty about the future.

“This agreement clears the path for NLT to resume the transformative work we began five years ago. At Rock Creek Park Golf Course, we will restart construction of a new clubhouse, driving range, practice facilities, and maintenance facility as part of a restoration project that will create a lasting community asset for golfers and non-golfers alike. We will restore nine holes of the historic William Flynn-designed regulation course, create a new nine-hole par-three course and Himalayas putting green, and develop a restaurant, pollinator meadows, and an ecological trail network. This project will also significantly expand our Jack Vardaman Workforce Development Program.

“We thank President Trump for reaching an agreement that keeps Washington, DC’s three public golf courses open, welcoming, and affordable community gathering places for DC residents and all golfers. We look forward to continuing to provide our expertise in operating and managing these beloved and historic courses and to making DC proud.”

The deal came days after a federal judge ruled the administration could proceed with maintenance at East Potomac but could not shut down the course or overhaul it without proper notice.

The HotelPlanner Tour headed to Italy for the 17th edition of the Italian Challenge Open, with a prize fund to €300,000—taking place from 18-21 September.

Event 26 of 29 on the 2025 Road to Mallorca was making its third appearance at Golf Nazionale in Sutri, Italy.

15 winners from the 2025 HotelPlanner Tour season teed it up in Portugal: JC Ritchie; Anders Emil Ejlersen; Filippo Celli; Daniel Young; Maximilian Steinlechner; David Horsey; James Morrison; Palmer Jackson; Felix Mory; Rocco Repetto Taylor; Jonathan Goth-Rasmussen; Renato Paratore; Quim Vidal; Wilco Nienaber; and Jamie Rutherford — all vying for a share of the €300,000 prize fund.

The Italian Challenge Open has provided the HotelPlanner Tour with several memorable moments through the years, with a host of notable names making their mark.

Matteo Manassero is the most recent home player to have triumphed at the event back in 2023, en route to securing his return to the DP World Tour by claiming an emotional three-stroke victory at Golf Nazionale. By winning, he became the third Italian champion of the event, joining 2023 European Ryder Cup Vice Captain, Edoardo Molinari, and Matteo Delpodio, who triumphed in 2009 and 2015 respectively.

To date, Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia is the only player to win the event twice, doing so for the first time in 2014 before he added a second title seven years later in 2021.

Golf Nazionale, home of the Italian Golf Federation technical centre, is located near the city of Rome, and recognised as one of the best golf courses in continental Europe and one of the most challenging courses in Italy, which follows the natural undulations of the hilly terrain. Golf Nazionale provides a true test of golf for the highest calibre of golfer due to the deep rough, undulated greens, water features and numerous strategically placed bunkers. Players must also consider the sharp elevation changes which bring about some spectacular views over the Lazio countryside.

The course was designed by Jim Fazio, with the help of the Italian architect David Mezzacane and opened in 1990. In 1991 the course hosted the World Cup of Golf which saw Swedish duo Anders Forsbrand and Per-Ulrik Johansson claim victory by one stroke over Welsh pair Ian Woosnam and Phillip Price.

The top 20 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, after the season-ending Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A, will earn a DP World Tour card for the 2026 Race to Dubai.

South African JC Ritchie secured his third win of the season in Italy and automatic promotion to the DP World Tour.

Next week’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black won’t be the last time the “people’s country club” hosts a prime-time event.

The PGA of America announced Wednesday that the New York public course will host the 2033 PGA Championship and 2028 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Additionally, the Wannamaker Trophy will be travelling upstate, returning to Oak Hill in 2035.

“The PGA of America is incredibly proud to be returning to New York and two world-class venues in Bethpage Black and Oak Hill Country Club,” said PGA of America president Don Rea Jr. “Bringing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship to Bethpage Black is a significant milestone and reflects our commitment to staging this event at premier courses in major markets.”

Bethpage Black previously served as host to the 2002 (Tiger Woods) and 2009 (Lucas Glover) U.S. Opens, and held its first PGA Championship in 2019 (Brooks Koepka). Though the course has also held two FedEx Cup playoff events, the 2028 tournament will be Bethpage’s first time serving as a backdrop for a major women’s event. Bethpage is ranked seventh in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Public courses.

“Venues matter. They elevate our athletes and amplify the moments that define our game,” said LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler. “Bethpage Black is one of the most iconic tests in golf, and bringing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship here for the first time will showcase our players against the backdrop of a venue with extraordinary history and energy. For fans and athletes alike, the championship will be a special opportunity to see the best women in the world compete on one of the game’s greatest stages.”

Oak Hill’s East course is no stranger as a major venue, with the PGA last visiting just two years ago when Koepka captured his fifth major championship. This will be Oak Hill’s fifth PGA Championship; only Southern Hills will have served as PGA host more times. Oak Hill has hosted three U.S. Opens, two U.S. Amateurs and the 1995 Ryder Cup. The course came in at 21st in the latest America’s 100 Greatest ranking.

New York has already hosted 14 PGA Championships, most of any state. The PGA’s next future open date is 2036.

The HotelPlanner Tour travelled to Portugal for the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos last week, with an increased prize fund to €300,000— which took place from 11-14 September.

Event 25 of 29 on the 2025 Road to Mallorca was making its sixth appearance at Royal Óbidos.

20 winners from the 2025 HotelPlanner Tour season teed it up in Portugal: Hugo Townsend; Anders Emil Ejlersen; Filippo Celli; David Law; Oihan Guillamoundeguy; Daniel Young; JC Ritchie; Maximilian Steinlechner; David Horsey; James Morrison; Palmer Jackson; Felix Mory; Rocco Repetto Taylor; Jonathan Goth-Rasmussen; Clement Charmasson; Renato Paratore; Quim Vidal; Joshua Berry; Wilco Nienaber; and Jamie Rutherford — all vying for a share of the €300,000 prize fund.

The Open de Portugal boasts a storied history in European Golf, having first been staged over 70 years ago. It became part of the European Tour schedule in 1973 and remained a fixture until 2010.

The tournament returned to the schedule in 2017 as a dual-ranked event with the HotelPlanner Tour, taking place at Morgado Golf & Country Club, and has remained on the Road to Mallorca schedule since then, with Royal Óbidos taking over as the venue in 2020.

Situated in dunes by the Atlantic Ocean, the golf course at Royal Óbidos opened in 2012 after being designed by golfing legend Seve Ballesteros, who took advantage of the land’s natural undulation to subtly blend in the layout with its surroundings.

The 7,200-yard course demands length off the tee and with water hazards coming into play on many holes through an intricate system of lakes and streams, precision is crucial – especially on approach shots into undulating greens, many of which are surrounded by water.

JC Ritchie birdied his final three holes to seal a second HotelPlanner Tour win of 2025 at the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos.

The South African signed for a five under par 66 to reach 15 under par for the week, though it wasn’t until the closing stages of Sunday’s play until he made his move. After bogeying the difficult par three 15th and sitting amongst a cluster of players in a tie for second, Ritchie bounced back with a birdie on the next before chipping in for another on the par four 17th.

Sitting two shots clear of overnight leader David Law on the 18th tee, the South African opted to lay-up on the par five closing hole before executing a pinpoint approach to set up a third consecutive birdie to set the clubhouse target of 15 under.

Once Law’s eagle attempt on 18 came up short, Ritchie was free to celebrate a sixth career title on the HotelPlanner Tour.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed coming here and always wanted to win this tournament.

“From twelve onwards were where the scores stagnated and there were a couple of tough holes coming in and I had an unbelievable finish.

“The 15th hole was crazy, and we all felt that was going to be a tough hole today. I managed to escape there with a bogey, knowing I was going to drop out the lead.

“I then managed a good birdie on 16 then chipped one in on 17 before hitting one close on the last and making the putt. I sort of had a feeling I was two or three ahead if I made the putt, I wasn’t really trying to make birdie but my hands kind of took over.”

Ritchie’s triumph in Portugal marks a second win of the season after his dominant display at the German Challenge supported by VcG. Now up to second in the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings, the South African has his sights on ending the campaign as Number One.

“I think after the win in Germany I felt like the job was pretty much done for next year,” he added.

“I am glad that it’s pretty much confirmed and that I can focus on trying to finish in the top five and even end the year as Number One.”

Before the start of the 2025 season, Ritchie’s four HotelPlanner Tour victories had all come in his native South Africa. With two wins in Europe now added to his resume, the 31-year-old is pleased to see hard work finally pay off.

“It means a huge amount to win twice outside of South Africa this year,” he added.

“It’s been a tough one to deal with winning two of the events in SA and then coming out here and never finish inside the top 20. I put in a lot of hard work last year and it seems to have paid off.”

Scotsman Law ended the week in solo second on 14 under par with Frenchman Julien Sale finishing in third on 13 under par, one shot ahead of Spaniard Quim Vidal in fourth place.

The UAE’s Joshua Grenville-Wood secured his best finish of the season so far, with a tie for 11th place.

Law remains at the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings with Ritchie jumping up six places from eighth following his victory. Italian Stefano Mazzoli, who started the week outside the promotion places, rose up to 19th position after placing inside the top ten at Royal Óbidos.

The Road to Mallorca now heads to Italy for the Italian Challenge Open, taking place at Golf Nazionale, Sutri, from September 18-21.

On Friday, Bryson DeChambeau welcomed the weekend with a bang when he holed a seemingly impossible ping-pong ball chip shot in his living room, ending a 12-day saga that captured the hearts and minds of the golf fans across the world. The viral stunt earned one of DeChambeau’s loyal followers a new Bentley, but more importantly it cleared the LIV pro’s calendar for the weekend, allowing him to fly to Cypress Point Club and rally the troops at the 2025 Walker Cup.

There, free from the tyrannical yolk and of that little red Solo cup, DeChambeau was practically walking on sunshine as he strolled the iconic fairways of Cypress Point. In classic Bryson fashion, however, he couldn’t help but deliver another Internet-breaking moment, revealing his favourite golf hole on the entire planet. Drum roll, please …

He checked out his all-time favorite hole in golf too pic.twitter.com/BFzdyFj638

— USGA (@USGA) September 8, 2025

If you had DeChambeau picking a drivable par-4 on your bingo card, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. It’s no surprise the infamously big hitter named a par 3.5 as his favourite hole in all of golf, but considering fans have never seen DeChambeau play Cypress Point, few could have guessed it lay at “Dr. MacKenzie’s” (as DeChambeau calls him) other masterpiece.

In the clip, DeChambeau called the 298-yard par-4 ninth the “greatest risk-reward hole in all of golf.” Standing on the tee, he said the hole is normally a 5-wood for him, or maybe a 4-iron if it’s playing downwind. “It’s framed by that dune behind it,” DeChambeau said, marvelling at the hole as if for the first time. “If I had to play one golf hole at the end of my life, it would be the ninth hole at Cypress Point.”

For a man who’s tee’d it up everywhere from India to Augusta National, that’s high praise, but we’ll take him at his word. For 99.9% of us, what other choice do we have?

The Swede saw a five-shot overnight lead disappear by the tenth hole on Sunday, before birdieing two of his last five holes to reach 15 under par for the week and win by two from German Anton Albers.

Townsend, who climbs to a season-high 10th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings with victory, was delighted to come out on top on a day of high drama in Poland.

“I’m shocked,” he said. “Obviously over the moon, but it was a stressful, stressful day.

“I played great the first five holes and felt like it was going to be a walk in the park, and then I hit two poor tee shots, and I had to start from scratch again.

“I saw my good friend Tobias (Jonsson) making a charge, and he’s so good, so I was worried about him. I’m just lucky that I one-upped him today.

“I wasn’t putting as well from mid-range today but then on the back nine I holed two great putts again. There’s something about the back nine here.”

Townsend made his first birdie of the day at the second, and when he made another gain at the fifth, his lead had been extended to six.

A double-bogey on hole six was followed by a bogey on seven, and with both Albers and countryman Tobias Jonsson making a charge, by the tenth hole he was tied at the top with Jonsson.

Townsend responded though, rolling in long birdie putts on both the 14th and 17th to make sure of a breakthrough victory.

The 26-year-old is the son of two-time Great Britain and Ireland Ryder Cup player Peter Townsend, and with golf in the family name, says there will be celebrations at home after his victory.

“When I was a kid, my dad taught me so many things,” he added. “He’s an older generation, so maybe not a lot of technique but a lot about thinking, how to read lies, how to think golf and play golf.

“He was a big advocate of just going out and playing a lot of holes. He loved that and he’s probably pretty happy right now. It’ll mean a lot.

“I called my family on the way to the tournament office before, and we were just screaming. I can’t wait to see them.”

Jonsson finished in solo third on 12 under par, with South African Justin Walters firing a seven under par 63 on the final day to end the week one shot further back in fourth. South African duo Bryce Easton and Jovan Rebula shared fifth on ten under par.

The top nine places in the Road to Mallorca Rankings remain the same, with Scotland’s David Law retaining his place as the Number One. Jonsson climbs seven places to 12th with his third-place finish in Poland, with Sam Jones from New Zealand currently occupying the final DP World Tour promotion place in 20th.

The Road to Mallorca now heads to Portugal for the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort, taking place from September 11-14.

The HotelPlanner Tour travelled to Poland for the second edition of the GAC Rosa Challenge Tour this past week, with an increased prize fund to €300,000—taking place from 04-07 September.

Event 24 of 29 on the 2025 Road to Mallorca was making its second appearance at Rosa Golf Club. The HotelPlanner Tour has visited Poland seven times previously.

16 winners from the 2025 HotelPlanner Tour season were teeing it up in Poland: Anders Emil Ejlersen; David Law; Oihan Guillamoundeguy; Daniel Young; JC Ritchie; Maximilian Steinlechner; David Horsey; Felix Mory; Rocco Repetto Taylor; Jonathan Goth-Rasmussen; Clement Charmasson; Renato Paratore; Quim Vidal; Joshua Berry; Jamie Rutherford and Daniel Van Tonder — all vying for a share of the €300,000 prize fund.

Rosa Golf Club, situated in the city of Czestochowa, was designed by architect Hans-Georg Erhardt and opened its doors in 2005. The parkland layout was built to exacting USGA specifications, with the build process seeing over a million cubic metres shifted during construction.

Water hazards are a feature throughout the golf course, with interconnected lakes creating several intimidating approach shots. The 192-metre 14th and 172-metre 17th are two testing par threes on the back nine, with both protected by water.

The facilities are also second-to-none, with 80 driving range bays, a 1,500 metre square practice putting green and a modern clubhouse to rival most others.

Sweden’s Hugo Townsend won his maiden HotelPlanner Tour title at the GAC Rosa Challenge Tour, after rounds of 69, 63, 64 and 69 for a 15-under total and a two-shot victory.
