It’s a type of reaction that usual comes with a fine in professional tournaments, but on the LIV Golf League, where Hatton now players the majority of his golf, players don’t get fined for these types of behaviour.

Here’s the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2024 DP World Tour Championship

During the third round of the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tyrrell “lost it” on the par-five 14th hole, resulting in the “voice of golf” Ewen Murray to call out Hatton’s behaviour.

“Oh no,”  said a pained Ewen Murray, the former pro turned Sky Sports Golf commentator. “It’s time for change, I’m afraid. That’s a terrible influence on the next generation.

“I’m sorry to say it. I’m his biggest supporter as a golfer.”

The broadcast then replayed the moment where Murray added: “Just have a look at this. Why? Why would you do that?

“We’ve all had our moments but he’s having too many of them.”

Earlier in the round, Tyrrell missed a 1-foot putt with a lip out, there would no doubt have been another reaction from the Legion XIII member, but the broadcast were smart enough to cut away.

Hatton sits tidily in solo 6th heading into the final round though, only three shots back from Rory McIlroy, Rasmus Hojgaard and Antoine Rozner at 12-under.

The former Ryder Cup player is having some week of it, having already blasted his new boss Greg Norman for the design of the 18th hole at the Earth Course, “despising everything about this hole.”

He probably can’t wait to get back to LIV where he doesn’t have to worry about these situations. Next up for Tyrrell is the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour at Riyadh Golf Club in December.

But there’s a similarly amazing backstory to that story, because, apparently, that call almost didn’t happen. And you’ll never, ever guess why.

Appearing on this week’s Andrew Marchand podcast, Nants revealed the hilariously random reason why he almost wasn’t hired by CBS way back in 1985. And it has to do with . . . swordfish? Yes, swordfish. Take it away, Jim!

“And I almost lost the audition over the order at lunch,” Nantz tells Marchand in the clip. “Ted and Pete both ordered swordfish, and it piqued my interest. I’m 26, my palate’s pretty limited. I said, ‘Wow, that sounds interesting. What in the world is swordfish?!’ . . . I found out later on, they went back and had a meeting, ‘We can’t hire this kid. He’s not far removed, he doesn’t even know what swordfish is for god’s sake! How can we put him on the network?! We get emergency situations, news breaking, this kid doesn’t know the world.’ But somehow, they went ahead and pulled the trigger and I got the job.”

So Jim Nantz nearly didn’t become the Voice of the Masters because he didn’t know what swordfish was? Incredible.

It’s also pretty incredible that any 26-year-old wouldn’t have ever heard of swordfish. But he was working in Utah at the time and that doesn’t exactly seem like the swordfish capital of the world.

In any event, we’re glad this crazy story had a happy ending. Nearly four decades later, CBS certainly, um, reeled in a good one.
