What began 101 days earlier has sadly come to an end. Is it just us, or did the 2024 men’s major season fly by, with Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele twice walking off with the hardware. There were endless storylines in their wake (did the world’s No. 1 player really get arrested on Friday of the PGA Championship?)

Now golf fans are in for the long wait—261 days to be precise—until the first round of the 2025 Masters.

Mind you, there is lots of golf to come between now and then—the Olympics, FedEx Cup Playoffs, Presidents Cup, not to mention one last women’s major (at St. Andrews to boot!) and Solheim Cup.

In an attempt to hold you over until the golf world returns to Augusta National once more next April, we compiled this early look at everybody who has already earned a spot in the field for next year’s Masters. We write this post with a caveat: We’re working off the presumption that the qualifying criteria for the 2025 event will mirror what was used in 2024.

To date, the number who have qualified, including past champions unlikely to play next year, is 68, the latest additions coming on Sunday at The Open. Here’s the list, in alphabetical order.

Two men’s majors down. Two more to go. After a thrilling finish at the PGA Championship, with Xander Schauffele claiming the Wanamaker Trophy with a 72nd-hole birdie to beat Bryson DeChambeau by a shot, next on the tee is the 2024 U.S. Open.

The USGA brings its marquee event back to Pinehurst No. 2 in June, the fourth time the famed Donald Ross course is hosting the national championship. The first came 25 years ago in 1999, when Payne Stewart won the U.S. Open for the second time in his career. In 2005, Michael Campbell pulled out the victory, and in 2014, Martin Kaymer dominated the field, winning by eight shots. Pinehurst has already been named site for the 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047 U.S. Open along with several other USGA championships.

USGA officials proudly boast that the U.S. Open is the most democratic championship in golf. Any professional or amateur with a 0.4 handicap index can enter, with 10,052 doing so this year. And around half the spots in the 156-player field were earned via qualifying. The USGA conducted 100+ 18-hole Local Qualifiers. All players advancing then competed in 36-hole Final Qualifiers that were held at 13 sites, 10 in the U.S., one in England, one in Canada and one in Japan. Those wrapped up June 3, dubbed by some as “Golf’s Longest Day,” with some dramatic stories of young amateurs, first-time qualifiers and even a past U.S. Open champion (Webb Simpson) earning their way to start at Pinehurst.

The remainder of the field earned their places through 23 fully exempt categories, including defending champion Wyndham Clark and Tiger Woods, who accepted a special exemption into the event earlier this month. The final exempt spots were filled June 10 when anyone in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking not already in the field at Pinehurst earns a spot. That included Robert MacIntyre and Adam Scott. Scott had to anxiously await the outcome of the Memorial Tournament to see if his spot would remain secure and his streak of consecutive majors played would increase to 92.

Also getting 11th-hour spots were Sergio Garcia, amateur Brendan Valdes, Otto Black and Maxwell Moldovan. All four were originally alternates out of Final Qualifying but advanced when spots held for Top 60 players weren’t filled.

Here’s the list then of the final field as of Monday morning. We’ll continue to update this list should there be any withdrawals and replacements.

We’re days from the start of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and the full field for the second men’s major of the year is finally complete.

Sixteen past champions are listed in the field to compete. Among them is Brooks Koepka, winner a year ago at Oak Hill when he shot a closing 67 to outpace Viktor Hovland and win the Wanamaker Trophy for the third time in his career. Koepka is also coming with momentum after winning his fourth career LIV event last week in Singapore.

Also in the field is Tiger Woods. A four-time PGA winner, including memorably in a playoff over Bob May at Valhalla in 2000, Woods has not officially announced if he will be playing or not, but the PGA Championship’s social media handle showed video of him practising this week at Valhalla.

Woods did not compete at last year’s PGA after undergoing fusion surgery on his right ankle a month earlier. He has made only two starts in PGA Tour events since the surgery: the Genesis Invitational in February, where he withdrew because of the flu during the second round, and the Masters last month, where he made his record-breaking 24th straight cut at Augusta while finishing 60th. His most recent PGA Championship start was 2022, where he made the cut at Southern Hills but withdrew after the third round.

Much of the qualifying criteria closed last Monday, and the PGA of America released the full field for the 105th championship on Tuesday. Koepka was among nine LIV golfers who were already exempt or announced as in the field, along with past PGA champions Phil Mickelson and Martin Kaymer. Seven other LIV golfers also qualified, either thanks to the position on the PGA Championship points list or via special invitation.

Chris Gotterup, winner of the Myrtle Beach Classic on Sunday, and S.H. Kim claimed the final two spots in the field; Kim earned his spot as the first alternate into the field when Rory McIlroy, who already had qualified for the championship, claimed victory at the Wells Fargo.
