PGA TOUR Champions returned to Northern Africa for the fourth consecutive year for the 50th Trophée Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco, the 10th event of the 2026 season.

Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Red Course, a par-73, 7,329-yard layout, played host to the 54-hole event, which ran Thursday to Saturday with a prize fund of $2,500,000 on offer and a winner’s share of $400,000.

The 66-player field featured four members of the World Golf Hall of Fame: Vijay Singh (1991), Colin Montgomerie (1997), Ernie Els (2008) and José María Olazábal (2009). Singh, Montgomerie and Els were all past Trophy Hassan II champions in the field and part of the DNA of this tournament, connecting five decades of championship golf in Morocco.

Defending champion Miguel Ángel Jiménez returned seeking to become the first back-to-back champion in the PGA TOUR Champions era of this event, and only the third player in the tournament’s 50-year history to win in consecutive years (Payne Stewart, 1992-93; Santiago Luna, 2002-03).

The Trophée Hassan II was a joint event, with the Ladies European Tour (LET) competing in the 29th Lalla Meryem Cup on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

Hend, 52, closed with rounds of 66-69-69 to secure victory in just his 12th career start on PGA TOUR Champions and earn fully exempt status on Tour through the 2027 season.

The Australian began the final round two shots behind but seized control with a pivotal swing on the par-3 ninth hole, where he made birdie while overnight leader Tommy Gainey carded a double bogey.

The win marks Hend’s first PGA TOUR Champions title, surpassing his previous best finish of runner-up at the 2026 Regions Tradition. He also moves from No. 14 to No. 5 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

Hend becomes the fourth consecutive international winner of the Trophée Hassan II during its PGA TOUR Champions era and the first Australian to lift the title in the tournament’s 50-year history. A former DP World Tour and Staysure Legends Tour winner, Hend earned his place in the field after topping the 2025 Legends Tour Order of Merit.

Two-time Charles Schwab Cup champion Steven Alker finished tied for second after matching the low round of the day with a closing 68, alongside Gainey, who recorded his fourth top-10 finish of the season despite surrendering the lead on the back nine.

World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els rebounded from an opening-round 74 with rounds of 68 and 69 to finish tied for fourth.

Boo Weekley, one of golf’s great folk heroes, is finally back on top.

Weekley, 52, picked up his first career win on the PGA Tour Champions on Mother’s day, going bogey-free for 54 holes at the Insperity Invitational. His final putt would not have made a difference, as Weekley went on to win by three, but the fact it 360’d around the hole and dropped to stay blemish-free made the win extra special.

“It’s just been a long time,” said Weekley, who had previously made 63 starts on the senior tour without a win. “I’m finally starting to get healthy again and swinging the golf club good again.

“It feels good to be actually able to come out and play the way I know I can play, and compete the way I competed this week. Kept my mind straight, didn’t let myself get a little out of line or anything. Just focused on my targets, focused on my greens, focused on my putts.”

Weekley’s 15 under total at The Woodlands Country Club in Texas was enough to beat all-time great Ernie Els by three, though it was much closer than the final tallies would appear. His lead was only one on the 17th hole, where Els’ approach found the water, leading to a tournament-ending double bogey. Weekley found the putting surface and holed a long, uphill, left-to-right insurance birdie putt that gave him all the breathing room he needed with one to play.

“Unfortunately, didn’t make as many putts as I wanted to today,” said Weekley, who made three birdies and 15 pars on Sunday. “But we got lucky the good lord blessed me with a win today.”

An emotional Weekley was embraced by fiancé Susan Harp on the final green, leading to some tears. “You gotta stop… you gotta stop now,” Weekley told her.

For Weekley, this was his first win on any tour in nearly 13 years, his third and last coming on the PGA Tour at the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial in 2013.

Stewart Cink has been a senior success the last two seasons, winning six times and capturing the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points title a year ago.

But he hadn’t won a major. Key word: hadn’t.

The 52-year-old who won the 2009 British Open for his lone major on the PGA Tour, blitzed the field Sunday at the Senior PGA Championship, shooting a bogey-free nine-under 63 at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, to win by six shots.

The 63, which included seven birdies and an eagle, was the best score of the day by three shots. Ben Crane, who turned 50 just last month, finished second after shooting 68. Pat Perez played in his first PGA Tour-sanctioned event since leaving LIV Golf after his contract expired in 2024.

“We definitely got our champion that we wanted, the guy who was playing the best golf,” Crane said. “Very impressive day for Stewart, one of my closest friends. Couldn’t be more thankful to see him come out on it.

“I played great golf, so I don’t mind getting beat when it’s that good of golf.”

Cink caps off a brilliant Sunday round and claims the 2026 Senior PGA Championship.#SrPGAChamp pic.twitter.com/UfHpAF4ktT

Cink won the Hoag Classic three weeks ago for his second title this year and sixth of his senior career. He was more than happy to finally add this title to his major total.

“It’s really satisfying to win my first major on the PGA Tour Champions,” he said. “It’s a gruelling golf course to compete over four days. It’s hot. The golf course is in incredible shape, but it really is testing out there. You don’t have to veer very far off to find trouble.

“I did a good job staying in the present, and that’s probably one of the things I look back on and being the most proud of is that I was patient, patient and present, really this week. A lot of good shots. Not all great shots, but managed myself really well.

“Today was just one of the best rounds I’ve played as a professional golfer. It was just really good.”

For the first few holes, the result was in question, but Cink then played Nos. 7-9 in four under par to race out to a big lead. Birdies at Nos. 11, 13 and 14 put the trophy out of reach for everyone else and Cink was able to play the last four holes with no stress.

Darren Carroll/PGA of America

Sure, it’s not the same as winning the British Open in 2009 at Turnberry. That week, most everyone in the golf world was cheering for 59-year-old Tom Watson to win, which he nearly did. But he made bogey on the 72nd hole and Cink easily topped him in a playoff.

Also, Cink was a much younger man then, although he says age is only a number, and believes he’s a better player now than he was that historic day in Scotland.

“It’s hard to compare the two … but the level of satisfaction and validation feels the same,” Cink said. “I actually feel like I’m probably more in control now than I was then. I feel like I’m a more complete player now than I was that year.

“It’s a maddening and rewarding and awesome game all at the same time. Days like today makes we want to get up early in the morning and go and work hard again. It just felt so good out there today. I almost didn’t want it to end.”

Former Open champion Henrik Stenson will make his long-awaited return to competitive golf this week as he tees it up at the Senior PGA Championship in Florida.

The Swede, nicknamed “The Iceman,” is set to play in the $3 million event at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton—marking his debut on the over-50s circuit just days after celebrating his 50th birthday on April 5.

It will be Stenson’s first competitive start since being relegated from the LIV Golf League at the end of the 2025 season. The five-time Ryder Cup player finished 49th in the individual standings, falling short of retaining his place in the breakaway circuit he joined in 2022.

Stenson’s move to LIV Golf came at a cost, as he lost his role as European Ryder Cup captain for the 2023 edition shortly after signing.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-82241" src="https://golfdigestme.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Phil-Mickelson-Henrik-Stenson-Warren-Little-RA.jpg" alt="Despite shooting 17 under for the tournament, Mickelson still lost by three to Stenson at Troon in 2016. "It was a shot to my ego," Mickelson says. "I had always assumed that my best golf would win.
Now, the 2016 Open champion begins a new chapter in his career. The 86th edition of the Senior PGA Championship promises a stacked field, underlining its status as the most prestigious major in senior golf. This year’s lineup includes 11 past Senior PGA champions, 21 major winners, seven World Golf Hall of Famers, and 10 former Ryder Cup captains.

Among the notable names joining Stenson in the field are defending champion Ángel Cabrera, along with major winners Michael Campbell, Stewart Cink, Darren Clarke, John Daly, Ernie Els, Pádraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Zach Johnson, Bernhard Langer, Vijay Singh, and Mike Weir.

The ISPS HANDA Senior Open will return to Royal Porthcawl in 2027 as the Welsh Government renews its support of the Championship.

Europe’s only Senior Major Championship will visit the South Wales venue for the fourth time when the 40th edition of the ISPS HANDA Senior Open takes place from July 22-25, 2027.

The venue offers stunning views across Swansea Bay to the Gower Peninsula and offers a true test of golf. It has previously hosted prestigious Championships such as the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, The Amateur Championship and the Walker Cup.

The ISPS HANDA Senior Open was held at Royal Porthcawl for the first time in 2014, four years after the country hosted its first Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor Resort.

Germany’s Bernhard Langer, the most successful player in Senior Major Championship history, triumphed by an incredible 13 shots ahead of Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie, before winning for a second time at Royal Porthcawl in 2017.

In 2023 it was another German, Alex Čejka, who defeated Pádraig Harrington in a play-off as he landed his third Senior Major Championship title on a dramatic day in punishing conditions at Royal Porthcawl.

The golf world nearly lost John Daly on Sunday. And not how anyone would have expected.

The PGA Tour Champions star was playing in the Cologuard Classic when he found a native area at Tucson’s La Paloma Country Club. Moments later, he needed to be found after briefly disappearing into the desert.

Check out the wild highlight that Daly shared on Sunday night:

We almost lost John Daly to a penalty area: pic.twitter.com/oFbOC6LUwe

— Alex Myers (@AlexMyers3) March 23, 2026

Wild stuff! As you can see, the two-time major champ loses his footing and does a full bellyflop, sliding down the hill and out of sight. Daly credited musician Joel Cooley for being a “true buddy sliding into save.”

Impressively, Daly hit what looked to be a solid shot before losing his balance. And he still shot 68 to finish T-29 in the event won by Steven Alker in a playoff over Padraig Harrington.

Anyway, we’re glad to hear the 59-year-old was OK and cracking jokes about it. And to everyone out there, be careful in those native areas.

That didn’t take long. Zach Johnson turned 50 just a couple weeks ago. On Sunday, playing in the final round of his PGA Tour Champions debut he shot a final-round 69 to cruise to victory in the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

The 12-time PGA Tour winner and two-time major champion shot 11-under 205 total to top Stewart Cink and George McNeill by four shots. He’s the 22nd player to win his debut on the senior circuit. His last PGA Tour victory came 11 years ago at the British Open at the Old Course in St. Andrews.

“Staying in modest shape to play with these guys because it’s still really good golf, highly competitive on a phenomenal track, I am humbled,” Johnson said. “I am extremely excited, and I have been excited. The first moment I stepped foot on this premises, I was like ‘hey, this is special.’ So well done. The guys have been amazing. To share it with my family, that’s everything.”

For the first time since the 2015 Open Championship, Zach Johnson is a champion!

Johnson opened with a 70 in South Florida and ramped it up with a second-round 66 where he started eagle, birdie on his first two holes. He’d then make three more birdies to take the lead heading into the final round.

On Sunday, Johnson bogeyed the third hole but then rattled off four birdies the rest of the way to easily claim his first Champions Tour title.

Johnson has said that he plans to play a full Champions schedule this year and sprinkle in a few PGA Tour events. As a past champion he’s exempt into the Masters and British Open and has already committed to the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Ariz., and the Hoag Classic on Newport Beach, Calif., on the Champions Tour.

“If my body’s willing and able, at this point that’s the half of it, I’m going to keep competing,” he said. “I’ve got the freedom at home to do so, my wife is amazing like that, so I’m going to keep working.”

Steven Alker’s remarkable renaissance from journeyman to PGA Tour Champions star went splash late Sunday, allowing major champion Stewart Cink to emerge as the tour’s reigning star, winning both the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the season-long Charles Schwab Cup.

Cink, 52, began the final round at Phoenix Country Club trailing Alker by one, then shot a four-under 67 that secured a two-stroke victory when Alker’s second shot at the par-5 18th hole went right and into a water hazard.

It was Cink’s third victory of the season and his fourth win in his brief senior career.

“It was a good week start to finish,” said Cink, a former Open champion, who shot 20-under 264 total for the week. “If I had to point to one stretch of golf that I was most proud of this week was probably the holes after a stretch of just nothing really good going on on Friday, but I finished with like three birdies in the last six or something like that.

“I just got myself together and that was a big turning point for me because like everybody, we’ve all lost tournaments. So I was really proud of turning it around. It’s a great week. I’m very, very pleased.”

Alker, 54, a New Zealander who has emerged as a PGA Tour Champions star following a less than impressive career on a variety of tours around the world, was seeking to win his 11th senior tour title and third Charles Schwab Cup. He entered the final round with a one-stroke lead, but made three bogeys in a five-hole stretch mid-round. He recovered with three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the back nine to get within one of Cink, until his second at 18 splashed right of the green.

“Up-and-down day,” Alker said. “I didn’t feel like I did a whole lot wrong, to be honest. Yeah, apart from the greens. I got a jumper flyer on number 10 and missed a short putt there. Had a three-putt at 12. Just felt like the putter—I three-putted one from the fringe today—just felt like it let me down on that front nine.

“He’s a world-class player. He could still play on the PGA Tour. He’s got enough length and he still putts it nice and chips it nice. And a world-class guy, too. And a worthy champion. He’s had a great year. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with out here.”
