The LPGA and JM Eagle LA Championship said the tournament will return to Wilshire Country Club next April now that a long renovation project at the course has been completed.

The last two editions were held at El Caballero C.C. in the suburb of Tarzana. Wilshire is known for its celebrity members, including Will Farrell, Jack Nicholson, Ray Romano and Mark Wahlberg. Howard Hughes was a member until getting kicked out for landing his plane on a fairway when he was late for a date with Katharine Hepburn.

Some of the most impactful work of Cara Banks’ early golf career came in Africa via a Nikon F5 camera and a backpack. She lived in Ghana for four months and went on solo treks to Johannesburg and other cities, interviewing golfers and sharing their stories. She would produce, write, interview and file features for shows in London.

She did lighting, audio and camera work as a multimedia journalist. She was a long way around the world from broadcasting for the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, but this turned out to be part of the path that led to her big break.

“I felt like I had so much experience from all parts of producing golf content,” Banks said. “It was then fortunate for me that Sky Sports asked for the show that we were producing to be presenter-led. I think I was a natural choice for them with some of the experience I’ve had. And from there, yeah, Golf Channel came knocking.”

A broadcaster’s journey is always different, and Banks—who grew up in England—then got the call to move to Orlando in 2015. With a three-year Golf Channel contract, her mother cried and told her she was proud and excited for her but knew she wasn’t coming back home to live. Banks wasn’t so sure, but a mum always knows best. Fast forward to this week, and Banks is set to call the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club.

In April, Banks was named lead play-by-play announcer for NBC’s LPGA broadcasts, in addition to her other roles with the network.

“It’s an absolute honour, to be honest, to have been named to do this position by NBC,” Banks said. “I feel ready to do it, excited and grateful for the opportunity, of course. I’ve worked in the golf industry and the golf production business for so many years now. … I’ve worked a variety of different roles. I’ve built up a lot of experience and understanding and respect for people in the industry, and [I’m] really excited to be trusted with the opportunity to do this for NBC.”

The 41-year-old Banks had long envisioned a career in television, but working in entertainment television was her first goal, thanks to a TV host who impacted her.

“I always wanted to be a TV presenter. That’s what we call it in the U.K.,” Banks said. “I felt very fortunate that I knew that that’s what I wanted to do. I grew up wanting to be like Davina McCall. She’s an English TV presenter. I grew up watching her present ‘Big Brother’ in England, and it was such a massive sort of cultural moment at the time. She did other programs like ‘Streetmate.’ I just really resonated with her and the ability that she had as a TV host to make you the viewer feel like she was talking to you.”

Growing up, Banks spent a lot of time skiing with her family. Now she and her husband, Oliver, are teaching their three children, ages 6 and younger, how to ski in Connecticut, where they moved with the Golf Channel’s relocation from Florida. Since Connecticut is home to NBC, as well, the Banks won’t need to move again.

Cara Banks, shown with Collin Morikawa at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational, is respected for developing rappart with players Icon Sportswire

Banks’ first job in the industry was as a show runner on a weekend talk show, where she made and delivered cups of tea for celebrities in the green room. She’s steadily done just about every job associated with broadcasting from production assistant to play-by-play, something she feels has helped her immensely. Banks studied politics at Newcastle University in England.

“I started from the ground up as a runner. I picked up all the experience,” Banks said. “I’ve never had official training. I’ve learned everything on the job.”

Banks has served as a host for Golf Channel on several shows, beginning with “Morning Drive” in 2015. She’s been a reporter for PGA Tour events for NBC as well. Five years ago, she made her debut doing play-by-play at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. During that event, she was part of a historical broadcast via an all-female commentary team. She joined Judy Rankin, Paige Mackenzie, Karen Stupples and Kay Cockerill.

“Regardless of what sex I am, I want to just be good at my job, and my attitude has always been through all stages of my career, and still is, put your head down, do a good job, and the rest will take care of itself,” Banks said. “If you work hard enough and you perform well enough, people will see that. That’s kind of been the case with what’s happened with me so far.

“It is really important to have the representation [for women], and I’m really grateful that I can be one of those people for whoever is aspiring to work in golf broadcasting or whatever it might be.”

Banks noted that she is the lone female on NBC for men’s golf broadcasts as an on-course reporter and is grateful that there is a female voice.

“Now, would I like to be doing more and be in the booth?” she said. “Who knows what will happen in time? For now, it’s great that we can have a female voice calling coverage for the best women players in the game.”

Last month, Banks called the Chevron Championship in Houston, which World No. 1 Nelly Korda won. She’s called a handful of other LPGA events as well. Making the move between reporter and host to play-by-play can be a challenge for some, but Banks has handled it well.

“She’s incredible at what she does, and her role keeps expanding because she’s doing such a good job at it,” said longtime producer Tommy Roy, who will be in the NBC truck for Banks’ work this week. “She happens to be a wonderful human being, so she’s fun to work with. She keeps getting better and better and better.”

At the 2021 ShopRite Classic, Cara Banks and Judy Rankin were on the first all-women golf broadcast team. Sarah Stier

Banks has a versatile sports resume. She’s a host for NBC’s Premier League soccer and an Olympics reporter and host. She reported on alpine skiing at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics in February and hosted CNBC and E! coverage of the Tokyo Olympics. She won a Sports Emmy as part of the NBCUniversal coverage team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Roy said the anecdotes she learns through networking and talks with players is a highlight of her calls. Her approach is conversational, which is an NBC staple. Banks learned about that first-hand from watching McCall.

“I’ve always tried to embody that in my role, whether it’s in a studio show or whatever it is, and it’s advice that I always give people about working in this space,” Banks said. “Treat the camera like the third person in the conversation, depending on how many people are in the group with you. Just bring the camera in and not be shut off by the microphone or the camera. Rather, try and warm up to it, and welcome that extra audience in.”

Roy recalled a live interview Banks got with Tiger Woods after a round at the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews. He remembers it vividly because news came that Woods would only do one quick session with media, no one-on-one interviews.

“Cara was down there, and she was incredible the way she positioned her body so she could get in there and get the very first couple of questions because we were live on the air,” Roy said. “We’re off showing golf shots, and we have to leave those golf shots to come down for the interview. We can’t sit there and wait for other people to be asking questions. She went right in there, and it was amazing what she did and got a great three questions in with Tiger, and we were out of there. It was that day that really sold me on her ability to be a go getter and get this thing done, and it was amazing.”

Banks talked to Golf Digest earlier this month while she was driving home from a media day for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. She played with Dan Hicks—one of NBC’s longtime play-by-play voices who will call the weekend at Riviera Country Club. Banks will lead coverage for the first two rounds and spend time in the booth and on the ground during the weekend.

Like many golfers who will be teeing it up at the major, Banks hadn’t worked or played at Riviera before this week. She’s looking forward to walking it and learning the nuisances of the historic course. She knows a thing or two about iconic places.

Banks and her golfing family would spend summer vacations on the coast of England near Royal St. George’s Golf Club, and they were members at nearby Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club.

“I kind of grew up walking golf courses in the summer. I’d swing a club but didn’t play a ton,” she said. “There wasn’t a ton of young girls of my age who were playing golf, but I walked the course, understood the game, caddied, followed my parents, met them halfway and would do the back nine with them and things like that.”

Banks has a 17 handicap index and plays about once a week at her home course, Brooklawn Country Club, when the weather obliges in Connecticut.

For this week, she’ll be on a big stage on the other side of the country just outside of Los Angeles. She’ll be calling one of the most important events of the golf season, a moment she’s prepared for since those days long ago in Africa.

World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul is still searching for the first major title of her young career, and the Thai star believes the key to unlocking success is in her short game.

Thitikul has another chance to work out her major challenges at the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club this week.

“I think getting up-and-down is the biggest challenge for me because I know I hit like a lot of greens when I was young, and I wasn’t really chipping [a lot],” Thitikul said on Monday. “I love to practice my putting. My dad brought me to the driving range a lot. That’s why I hit a lot of greens.

“My coach, Kris [Assawapimonporn], always says that chipping is so fun. I’m always like, ‘No, that sounds boring to me.’ But I do tell him that putting is fun too, and then he’s like, ‘No, that’s so boring.’ You just do one thing all the time and then repeat that. Repeat that. He just loves chipping and then playing shots all around. Chip it around the tree, cover the tree, under the tree.”

Thitikul, 23, has nine LPGA wins and 59 career top-10s. She has $18.4 million in career earnings and is the reigning player of the year. Yet, she’s never won that elusive major, and she’s joked before that she doesn’t think about it except when people often ask her about it.

She’s played in four U.S. Women’s Opens, missing the cut in two, with a best finish of T-6 at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club in 2024. Thitikul isn’t sure there’s a common theme as to why she hasn’t won this major in particular. But patience is one.

“I think all the U.S. Opens that I have are so different because we had different courses, different mindset, different weather outside,” Thitikul said. “I think you need to really be patient in a U.S. Open. On the 18th hole, you definitely know that you’re not going to make birdie bombs as you make in a lot of tournaments. You definitely had a tough up-and-down, and then you have to bounce back from some places that maybe just see impossible things. I think you have to keep being really patient. I think it’s a good advantage for being in the U.S. Open.”

Thitikul had a disappointing first major of the season by missing the cut in the Chevron Championship. She made her next start two weeks later at the Mizuho Americas Open and won it, for her second title of the season. Her first was the memorable win in her home country at the LPGA Thailand.

Even as young as she is, Thitikul is arguably the best player who has yet to win a major. She’s played in 28 total—three as an amateur—and has nine top-10s. She had her closest call at the Amundi Evian Championship last year, but finished second after losing to Australian Grace Kim in a two-hole playoff.

All would be forgotten if she can win here, where the U.S. Women’s Open kicks off a stretch of four majors in the next two months—the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Women’s British Open and Evian Championship.

“I feel like the majors are coming up so close. I do love the time [between] Chevron to here, but from here, we just feel like we have major stress,” Thitikul said. “… If you’re at your peak in this period of time, you might have a really good long stretch.

“I prep for the U.S. Open, and then next week I have a week off, and I prep for, obviously, KPMG. It’s not like I have to make like 10 hours of prep in a day for just the U.S. Open or KPMG. I think we prep for just a better future. Not just the major, but the better future, the better games we’re going to have not just this year, but like my whole career in the future.”

Celine Boutier’s Sunday started with an inspirational conversation before she teed off in the final round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic. The tour veteran and major winner met LPGA superfan Evelyn King-White, an 11-year-old who has been battling Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Boutier surprised King-White near the clubhouse at Seaview Hotel & Golf Club as part of a Make-A-Wish Foundation meet-and-greet. Boutier then delivered the news that the young girl would be going on a trip to Disney World, courtesy of the Childhood Cancer Center.

Yet King-White wasn’t the only one who was touched by the moment. Said Boutier: “It set me up for a good mood for the day.”

The 32-year-old Frenchwoman then proceeded to deliver a spectacular performance with a five-under 66 to come from four shots behind and win with a nine-under 204 total. Boutier claimed the $300,000 first-place prize money payout from a purse of the $2 million, winning by a shot over Arpichaya Yubol, who was penalised a stroke for slow play a day earlier.

“It’s very special,” Boutier said after posting rounds of 66-72-66 on a course where she had previously won in 2021. “It’s already a special tournament for me, and to win again makes it more special. I have such great memories and have met such cool people in pro ams.”

King-White, who lives in Towson, Md., and participates in First Tee Greater Baltimore, is having a fantastic May, too. Earlier this month, she rang the bell, signifying the end of her treatment. “I cried happy tears for a long time,” King-White said in a text message.

Then, King-White closed out the month following Boutier, her favourite player, in the gallery and was there for the trophy presentation on the 18th green.

“I was definitely Celine’s good luck charm,” King-White said. “I watched her on every hole.”

Sports can be a powerful healing tool, and King-White says she has benefited from golf, crediting the First Tee and Eagles Nest Golf Club with supporting her during her cancer journey.

King-White will have a PET scan in July to make sure the radiation has been successful. Her First Tee coach has told her that she has a great putting stroke, just like Boutier.

Not surprisingly, it was a key putt that helped propel Boutier to victory. On the 14th hole, she rolled in a 35-foot birdie effort that put her into the lead for good.

A couple of times during her round, Boutier noticed King-White was following her group. “It definitely felt very heartwarming to see her on the course and watching me after I had the chance to meet her,” Boutier said. “I definitely feel like we had a little bit of connection there. Seeing her at the end as well was super cool.”

Boutier won her seventh LPGA event but first title in 2½ years. There’s no statistic for making someone’s day, but Boutier would be padding those stats as well if there was such a thing. Last year, she became an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in France. She had a bonus wish in New Jersey on Sunday.

And now, Boutier takes the win and good vibes to the Los Angeles area, where she’ll compete in the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club, hoping to win a second major title. She’s already won the Amundi Evian Championship in her home country in 2023. Given a week in which she made a new friend and won, it would extend a special streak.

“It was really fun for me to be able to do that for her,” Boutier said. “It’s very humbling and very nice to meet her, and she was so excited. It got my day off on the right foot.”

The busy summer is in full bloom on the LPGA as two majors will be played in the next four weeks. But first, eight past champions are in Galloway, N.J., for the ShopRite LPGA at Seaview Hotel & Golf Club. Jennifer Kupcho is the defending champion.

The field will play for the $2 million purse with the winner taking home $300,000 for a victory.

Charley Hull is the top-ranked player in the field at No. 7 as only five of the top 25 in the Rolex Rankings are competing. Hye Jin Choi, twin sisters Aki and Chizzy Iwai and Kupcho are the others who fit the bill.

There are 23 LPGA rookies playing, meaning there’s a big chance for a first-timer to jump up and make history. Brooke Biermann, Gianna Clemente, amateur Mia Hammond, Rachel Kuehn and Annabelle Pancake-Webb are the sponsor invites.

The U.S. Women’s Open is next week at famed Riviera. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is at the end of the month at Hazeltine National.

Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.

Lottie Woad’s birdies and wins are good for sales of candied gummies and new tattoos.

The World No. 10 from England, who will be moving up in the rankings very shortly, won her second LPGA Tour title on Sunday in the Kroger Queen City Championship at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati.

Her caddie, David “DT” Taylor rewards Woad and himself a gummies treat for each birdie, and she had four of those in a final round of one-under-par 69 to beat Haeran Ryu by two shots.

Taylor had another carrot for Woad—a win and she could decide his next tattoo. Woad isn’t sure what she’ll make him get, but after the round he said he had an open spot on his leg and was ready to make good on the promise.

It was a sweet win.

Dylan Buell

“We’ve done it the last few events that we remembered,” Woad said. “I think people think that we’re like stuffing our faces with sweets during the round, but, realistically, we’re eating like four gummie bears.”

The 22-year-old Woad won $300,000 of the $2 million purse after shooting 70-64-65-69–268 to finish at 12 under. With a second victory in her 19th career start, Woad is the fastest player to reach two LPGA victories since Sung Hyun Park won twice in her first 16 appearances in 2017.

This victory was even sweeter for Woad than the first, when she captured the ISPA Handa women’s Scottish Open last July in her professional debut. Success was expected of Woad, who rose to be the top-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2024. Only a year ago, she was still playing college golf for Florida State and finished runner-up in the individual NCAA Championship. She earned her card onto the LPGA through the tour’s LEAP college points system.

“I think the first one just happened so quickly that it was kind of hard to take in,” Woad said of the winning star to her career. “…I think now being out here full time and this being my job and that was my first event. Just seeing the competition each week and traveling and all that, I think this is just definitely a lot sweeter.”

Woad had a three-shot lead after 54 holes of the Kroger and fell into a tie Sunday, but never lost it and surged back ahead late.

If you told her earlier this month that she would win this week, she might not have believed you. She missed the cut last week in the Muzuho Americas Open after shoot 80-77. That left her beyond frustrated with her putting. She investigated her equipment and learned her grip wasn’t on straight. She got a new putter grip, played well on the greens and hoisted the trophy.

“This year, I putted pretty nicely. Last week was definitely the worst,” Woad said. “I changed the putter grip so it was straight again and felt better in my hands. Also spent last weekend just putting the whole time. Just stayed in New Jersey and practiced there. I think it was a little bit of practice and also the grip being on straight, too.”

On Sunday, Woad made a 10-footer for birdie on No. 1, then rolled in a key eight-foot par save on 14 and drained and a 20-footer for birdie on the 17th. She stepped up to the final hole with a comfortable two-shot cushion.

Ryu was right there until she bogeyed the 10th, then double bogeyed the 13th to fall three shots back. Ryu birdied 14 and Woad bogeyed 13, so Woad’s lead was down to one. Both players worked around a double bogey in the final round.

While Woad will prepare for the U.S. Women’s Open early in June at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, she’ll also need to pick the next tattoo for Taylor.

“I am either going to do with the area we’re in or something to do with the tournament or maybe it’ll be like a sweet or something,” Woad said.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda didn’t win, finish second or play in the final pairing of a tournament for the first time this year, but she still finished in the top 10. Korda was four under through two rounds and wasn’t able to make a big move on the weekend. Still, she shot a final-round 67 and finished at five under to be T-8, nine shots back.

The last two weeks on the LPGA have been exciting with Nelly Korda winning both a major and then the following week in Mexico.

This week the tour heads to New Jersey for the Mizuho Americas Open, where Michelle Wie West is the playing host in an event that features 120 players with 24 of the best junior golfers.

Everyone is playing for the $3.25 million purse at Mountain Ridge Country Club with the winner taking home $487,500 for a victory. World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul is the defending champion.

Wie West announced last month that she’ll play in the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera next month so she’s using this week as a chance to shake off some rust. She hasn’t played an event in three years.

Last year Thitikul played the last 27 holes bogey free to top Celine Boutier by four shots. She went on to win two more times after this last year. Korda is not playing this week but 22 of the top 25 players in the world are participating.

Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.

Michelle Wie West’s return to golf made her appreciate something—these girls are good.

Her day didn’t go as planned on Thursday as she shot a 10-over 82 in the first round of the Mizuho Americas Open. Wie West, the host of the LPGA event at Mountain Ridge Country Club in New Jersey, was playing a competitive round for the first time in nearly three years.

Wie West hit just seven of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens in regulation. She struggled with 37 putts and four-putted the 11th hole. The greens, to be fair, did seem tricky for many other players.

“I think if you look at my round today, I think the one takeaway that you can get from that is these girls out here are amazing,” she said. “They make these golf courses look a lot easier than they actually are. That pin position on 11 was terrible. It was hard. You would’ve thought they would’ve made some easier pins for me today, but nope.

“I just went out there and I stayed positive. My husband [Jonnie West] is such a good, positive energy for me. At the end of the day, I put things in perspective and I build upon it, and you have to learn from these kind of rounds. That’s just what golf is.”

Jonnie is caddying for his wife this week. Wie West had a surprising wave of emotions before she teed off in the first round. The last time Wie West teed it up was at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, where she missed the cut.

“I wasn’t nervous going in, and I get to the first tee and I’m like, ‘holy s-h-i-t.’ I now spell my curse words because I’m a mom,” Wie West said. “I was like, ‘wow. Hole all of a sudden looks so small.’ Got to a two-footer and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to hit the hole. No way.’

“Happy that I played today ahead of the U.S. Open. As much practice as you can do, as many money games as you can play, there is literally nothing in the world that compares to the first round of a tournament. I thought today was great experience. I felt like the back nine I made some good putts, hit some good shots, almost brought it back to single digits. I’m excited for tomorrow. Just going to try to go as low as possible and keep acquiring those feels.”

Wie West, who won the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open, will get back to working on her putting for the second round and the major next month at Riviera. She was tested on Thursday.

“The greens are very tough as it is. I got so nervy out there. I think I was just shocked at how nervous I got,” Wie West said. “These girls are really good out here. I think it’s just such a great reminder for people watching on TV that these girls out here are dialed. They’re playing on these conditions week after week and as tough as these greens are, they’re handling it great. So for me today, the greens felt exponentially harder. It was nice having my husband on the bag. Saw a lot of friendly faces out there. As tough as it was, I took a lot of positives from it. Excited how the tournament has been run and a lot of positives.”

There were a lot of smiles on the back nine for Nelly Korda at the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba—even when she lost a tee ball into the woods on 18 and later had to play a shot out of the gallery. Eventually she made a long putt bogey, but it didn’t matter.

Korda won by four.

Here’s the prize money payout for each golfer at the LPGA’s 2026 Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba

It’s her third victory in 2026. In the other three tournaments she’s played this year, she’s finished second. Last week she won the Chevron Championship. No one would’ve blamed her if she didn’t want to hop on a plane to Mexico after a major win. But she did, and hoisted another trophy. Is this the best golf she’s ever played?

Korda won’t say.

“I’m just enjoying myself and I love the competition,” Korda said Sunday after shooting 69 to win by four shots at 17-under total. “I’m just having fun.”

The refreshed mentality is one that Korda has worked on. In 2024, she had a historic season, winning five times in a row and seven times total. Last year was, naturally, was full of expectation and she didn’t win, but to make matters more confounding, her stats were nearly better than they were in 2024. How could she be technically playing better, yet not winning?

“I was getting frustrated last year on the golf course and I started overanalyzing everything and I started overthinking, and then that was paralyzing me,” Korda said after winning the Chevron Championship last week. “I told myself I don’t ever want to feel like that on a golf course.”

Ishika Samant

Korda, 27, and her long-time caddie, Jason McDede, talked about the tough year. And it helped them come up with a strategy for 2026.

“We were like, yeah, last year wasn’t easy,” Korda said. “It was because I was overanalysing absolutely everything. Sometimes there is a power in just letting go.”

Korda’s ability to let go and play freely was evident in Mexico. She cruised through all four rounds, making only two bogeys over four days. Her second bogey was on the final hole of the tournament. A wayward drive, a provisional into a bunker, a shot out of the bunker that went into the gallery. This could’ve spelled disaster for most, but Korda smiled through it. She let go. And what could’ve been a massive number on the scorecard, was just a tiny, insignificant blemish.

The win puts Korda’s name among some of the game’s greats. Again. She’s the first American woman to win a tournament the week after winning a major since Meg Mallon won the U.S. Women’s Open and the Canadian Women’s Open in 2004. Korda also becomes the youngest American to win 18 times on the LPGA since 23-year-old Nancy Lopez in 1980.

Whether this is Korda’s best golf is for debate, but it is undoubtedly extraordinary golf. And she realizes that golf like this should be enjoyed.

“I’m just happy to be competing out here healthy, motivated. You know, I’m so happy on the golf course. I’m happy off the golf course,” she said. “I just think that, yes, I am living my best life for sure. But golf also humbles you, so I know that I need to enjoy these moments. There have been so many times that legends have told me it smell the roses, so now I have a week off and I can officially smell the roses for a few days.”

The LPGA moved to Mexico as it was coming off the high of Nelly Korda winning the Chevron Championship to collect her third major title, which moved her back to World No. 1. And, as luck would have it, Korda won again to make more history.
