LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil remains bullish on his league’s future in wake of Saudi Arabia pulling its funding. But in a TV appearance Tuesday he wouldn’t go so far as to guarantee its immediate future.

O’Neil is starting to make pitches to prospective financers now that Saudi PIF has stopped bankrolling the league following somewhere in the range of $5 to $8 billion spent on the venture. The league is seeking $250 million to $350 million to continue operations and is projecting profitability within three years. Axios reported earlier this week that LIV was targeting profitability in 20 months. In a February interview with the Financial Times, CEO Scott O’Neil said profitability could be five to 10 years away, and in a since-deleted on-air comment, O’Neil said the league had funding only through the end of 2026.

However, earlier this week Front Office Sports reported there is doubt among LIV executives that the league will be able to complete its remaining four events on the calendar. LIV has already postponed one event this season, citing summer heat and the World Cup. Asked during a guest spot on CNBC’s afternoon programming, O’Neil was asked if he could guarantee those events will be played.

“What I can guarantee is a heck of a return if you come invest in this business,” O’Neil said.

O’Neil asserted LIV has a “very, very special opportunity to create tremendous value,” and said he’s had five meetings about funding interest and more scheduled for this week. “While we have incredible business momentum, what we don’t have is a lot of time, so we’re very urgently out there talking to those who are interested,” he said.

In late April LIV created an independent board of directors to help focus on securing long-term financial partners after Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the PIF and architect of LIV Golf who had held the position of chairman of LIV’s board, stepped down. Still, while PIF is gone, O’Neil believes they will fund the remaining four events.

“I can say they’ve been terrific partners so far, and you have to take an incredible organisation like PIF at their word,” O’Neil said. “They’ve been very public about funding us through the season, so we are full steam ahead.”

LIV Golf’s next event is scheduled for July 23-26 outside of London.

Much of the golf world, at least those not watching the remnants of LIV Golf on an event-by-event basis, might believe that Bryson DeChambeau is having a down year. At the Masters and PGA Championship earlier this spring, DeChambeau looked lost and frustrated en route to a pair of missed cuts. However, those performances clanged against his 2026 LIV results, where DeChambeau has won twice and fired a final-round 65 in Korea that very nearly resulted in a third. Now approaching the year’s penultimate major—one that DeChambeau has won twice previously—it’s fair to wonder which Bryson will show up.

This weekend at LIV Golf Andalucia, where DeChambeau finished T-11, Flushing It Golf spoke to the Crushers G.C. captain about the current state of his game and how he can avoid a third straight major missed cut at Shinnecock. As always, the human headline magnet delivered some fascinating insight. Check it out.

Bryson DeChambeau’s next event after LIV Golf Andalucia is the US Open, where he’ll attempt to win his 3rd gold medal. He spoke to Flushing It Golf at Valderrama about his preparation ahead of Shinnecock Hills and whether he feels any pressure after missing the last 2 cuts in… https://t.co/qjCrfjNdbj pic.twitter.com/mf8tCo6RZ4

If you’re the “I ain’t reading all that” type, here are the highlights.

+ DeChambeau doesn’t believe his missed cuts are systemic: “I might miss all four of them in majors this year. That’s just golf.”

+ Despite countless errant shots, especially off the tee, at Aronimink, DeChambeau likes where his swing is at. “I’m working on my golf swing really hard. I feel like it’s in a really solid place. It’s very close to some of my best golf ever.”

+ LIV Golf’s switch to 72 holes is paying dividends for him: “I feel like I’m actually playing the most consistent I’ve ever played on LIV, which is great. And I think it’s attributed to the switch to four rounds. No question.”

+ He’s not skimping on course reconnaissance. With no LIV event on the schedule until after the British Open, DeChambeau told Flushing It he’s headed to Shinnecock early to put in “extended work.” He also revealed that he hasn’t played the fabled Long Island links since the 2018 U.S. Open.

One thing we know for certain is when DeChambeau tees it up at Shinnecock next week, there will be fireworks. Whether they’re celebratory explosions or distress flares, we’ll just have to wait and see.

A top-three at the Masters in April, becoming a father in late May, and, on Sunday, a LIV Golf Andalucia victory at ultra-difficult Valderrama.

It’s been a busy three months for popular Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton. Clearly, it’s not been easy to stay on top of everything.

“It was pretty funny, he asked for advice on car seats the day he was leaving the hospital, which is something I thought he’d have figured out by then,” close friend Jon Rahm, Hatton’s LIV Golf and Ryder Cup European teammate, said after losing to him by two shots on Sunday. “I did tell him, any time, he can call me because I’ve been there at midnight when you don’t know what to do and you need somebody to call.”

Only two weeks after withdrawing from LIV Golf Korea so that he and wife, Emily, could welcome their first child, a competitively rusty Hatton allowed two-time major winner Rahm back into the contest, as well as Garcia, whose long career includes four victories at Valderrama and 17 top-10 results in 18 starts there.

But Hatton held on with a scrappy, one-under-par 70 giving him a total of 11 under – two shots ahead of Rahm (67). Hatton bounced back from a bogey at the sixth with a birdie at nine, and from bogeys at 10 and 12 with another birdie at 13. The 34-year-old put the tournament to bed with clutch birdies at 16 and 17 and a tricky par save at the last.

“It feels amazing that I’ve done it in my first event as a dad,” Hatton said. “I said to Emily, like one of my motivations probably moving forward is when Althea grows up, she will know that I was pretty good at golf sometimes, and I would love to continue to be able to win tournaments when she’s old enough to remember that happening.

“Yeah, it’s definitely given me a different kind of motivation with practice and what I hope to achieve in golf before obviously I get older and my best years are behind me.”

After Rahm, Abraham Ancer (68) was third at eight under, Garcia (70) was fourth at seven under, and Dustin Johnson, Thomas Detry, David Puig and Cam Smith shared fifth at five under.

The notoriously tricky Valderrama was always going to be tough for 54-hole leader Hatton to maintain his lead. Cork trees line Valderrama’s severely sloping fairways, while its small, tilted greens demand precise iron shots. Gusting winds from the nearby Sotogrande coastline add to the challenge.

“Yeah, I found today really stressful,” Hatton said of LIV Golf Andalucia, which for the first time in the event’s four-year history comes with Official World Golf Ranking points. “I feel like I hit a lot of good iron shots that didn’t end up on the green. Obviously you saw a lot of pretty angry reactions from myself, but I’m happy with how I just kept plugging away and in a sense kind of got my reward with how I finished.”

Hatton kept picturing his wife and baby girl, perhaps offering a dose of perspective as Rahm and Garcia came within one shot of his lead.

“To be honest, I thought no matter how today went, I’m still going to be home tonight, and I’ll walk in to a crying newborn, and I’ll be doing nappies tonight,” Hatton said. “That was going to happen regardless. I’m really excited to get home to Emily and our little girl.”

Valderrama, the Andalucia club famous for staging the 1997 Ryder Cup, has also hosted a multitude of DP World Tour tournaments and two World Golf Championships. “It feels surreal to win, let alone the kind of place as iconic as this,” Hatton said.

<img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-117536" class="size-full wp-image-117536" src="https://golfdigestme.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Tyrrell-Hatton-playing-his-approach-en-route-to-a-gritty-par-to-close-out-his-first-LIV-victory-since-2024.-Octavio-Passos.jpg" alt="Tyrrell Hatton playing his approach en route to a gritty par to close out his first LIV victory since 2024.
Rahm’s Legion XIII side secured a victory in the team element. Individually, the Spaniard had never looked happier finishing second.

“Obviously I had a fantastic week myself, and very happy for Tyrrell to have just become a father just over two weeks ago and having his little girl and being a proud girl dad,” Rahm said.

“As good as he is, if someone is going to beat me, there’s very few people I’ll be happy for, and he’s one of them. It was very well-earned and happy that he on and help the team as well. As far as I’m concerned, couldn’t ask for much more.”

Hatton now owns 14 professional wins, among them the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2020, eight DP World Tour titles and two LIV victories. Among his victories are lifting trophies at St. Andrews (as a three-time Dunhill victor), Bay Hill, Wentworth and now Valderrama.

Next, he heads to Shinnecock for the U.S. Open, a major he co-led through 15 holes on the final round last year at Oakmont only to fade to a T-4 finish. Hatton will no doubt be buoyed by a T-3 at the Masters and his Valderrama victory.

LIV Golf Andalucia was also the cut-off for the league’s exemption into the 154th Open Championship, which was given to the top player not already exempt from its points standings. Chile’s Joaquin Niemann finished T-24 at Valderrama, enough to lock up third in points before the deadline and secure the start at Royal Birkdale next month.

There’s an argument to be made that the amount of money in professional golf, despite the sport’s post-pandemic popularity surge, has spiralled out of control. That it’s not sustainable. That it’s even a little off-putting given the state of the world and the cost of living within it. There’s also an argument to be made that LIV Golf is responsible for all of that.

That’s why Cameron Smith’s comments to the Daily Mirror’s Sam Frost on Wednesday raised eyebrows across golf. Smith joined LIV Golf in August 2022, signing a reported $140 million contract with the Saudi Public Investment Fund-backed league. Smith was one of several nine-figure deals LIV Golf handed out between 2021 and 2023. “Put up or shut up,” the upstart venture effectively said to the PGA Tour, which responded by dotting its schedule with $20-million, no-cut “Signature Events” in an effort to keep financial pace with their new rivals.

But now, with PIF having pulled its funding of LIV Golf and new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp poised to revamp the PGA Tour schedule yet again, Smith believes that the financial arms race he is in part responsible for needs to end.

“It’s time for [prize money] to come back to the way it was,” is a heck of a quote coming from the Ripper G.C. captain.

In fairness to Smith, his comments were in response to a question about LIV Golf’s expected scale back following the 2026 season, but some fellow pros who turned down LIV’s golden ticket must have done a spit take. The Aussie, along with the likes of Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, turned on the proverbial faucet. They poured hundreds of millions of dollars into their own glasses, and now that they’re full, Smith wants to turn it off again. That’s not going to sit well with some, especially those who played better golf than the 2022 Open champ over the past several years but still ended up with far less in their bank accounts.

While the messenger may not be ideal, the message is one that the PGA Tour (and whatever remains of LIV Golf leadership) are already taking seriously. Golf is bigger than ever, but that means more competition for eyeballs and wallets. Just take Barstool Sports’ made-for-YouTube Internet Invitational, for instance. This week, Barstool announced a winner’s purse of $4 million, a 300% increase from 2025 for the amateur influencer event. That’s larger than many opposite-field PGA Tour events and LPGA tournaments. That level of financial proliferation simply doesn’t seem sustainable in a world ravaged by inflation, high interest rates, collapsing alternative currencies (see: Bitcoin) and war.

“It’s been an awesome four to five years for us golfers,” Smith said, but at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, even he is willing to admit the good times don’t last forever.

Last week, Bryson DeChambeau spoke about using his profile in earnest during business meetings as the LIV Golf League attempts to raise investment, following the decision by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to withdraw funding after the 2026 season.

But as the league seeks between $250 million and #50 million to help keep it afloat, its other star—fellow two-time major winner Jon Rahm—has ruled out performing a similar role to DeChambeau during the pitching process.

“I am not, no,” Rahm said during a press conference in Spain on Tuesday at LIV Golf Andalucia when ask about meeting with potential investors. “I said [moments earlier] it in Spanish; I don’t know how to translate it to English; it would be more of a ‘stay-in-your-lane’ type situation as it goes to me.

“I know nothing about business. I’m never going to claim to know anything about business, and if I was in a business pitch, I would not know the first thing to say. My job is to play golf, and I’ll say it is hard enough as it is, especially this week [at the exacting Valderrama course].”

Rahm has three children and a fourth expected later this fall. While the 31-year-old would listen to any suggestions on how he could get involved, Rahm said there were time constraints.

He also has two remaining major championships outside of LIV Golf, as well as a minimum five DP World Tour events to compete in after reaching an agreement to continue playing on the circuit.

“If any player who knows what they’re doing is willing to do certain things like that, I think it can only help,” Rahm said. “To have insight from a player on a meeting like that can help, and I’m open for any suggestions possible. But I would also say I don’t have the free time that Bryson has to be flying around the country to attend meetings with three little ones and one on the way. Even if I wanted to, I don’t know if I could do it.”

LIV Golf is in the process of pitching to investors with the assistance of New York-based Ducera Partners.

It is believed the league is pitching a 10-event schedule to potential investors while trying to secure between $250 million and $350 million. A re-shaped LIV Golf would extend equity beyond just the team captains and will have an emphasis on team golf. More than 12 players provided introductions to potential investors, for both the league and its teams.

In contrast to Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau is working with LIV Golf officials to meet with potential investors to help secure future funding for the league. Jamie Squire

This came about after the Public Investment Fund confirmed it would not finance LIV beyond the 2026 season, following a reported spend of between $5 billion and $8 billion since the league launched in 2022.

Last week at LIV Golf Korea, DeChambeau was asked by reporters about the PIF’s withdrawal from LIV and his confidence in securing new investment.

“One door closes, another opens,” DeChambeau said. “I think that’s the way a lot of us are looking at it. I think we all have optimism that there is a business plan that makes sense for team golf.

“I’m very optimistic with the business plan of team golf compared to other models, in my opinion.”

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil had said previously that five-time league winner DeChambeau had been “a driven” partner.

“You want to talk about a business partner, we’re literally talking about the future of LIV Golf, I’m talking with him about how does he see, not just the golf, but the business? He’s smart, he’s driven, he’s committed, and he’s a heck of a partner.”

LIV Golf Andalucia, the ninth event of the season, starts Thursday at Valderrama, a former DP World Tour and World Golf Championships host course. It also held the 1997 Ryder Cup.

The league will then take a seven-week break given its Louisiana event, scheduled for June, has been postponed until a potential fall date.

This week LIV Golf Korea marks the eighth tournament of the season, marking the start of the five final regular season events before a team championship in Michigan ends the tumultuous year in late August.

Get your June 2026 edition of Golf Digest Middle East here!

This also is the eighth country LIV Golf has visited this year and the second time to Korea although last year the event was at Jack Nicklaus golf Club in Incheon. Asaid Country Club this week is the 32nd different course to host a LIV Golf tournament.

It’s only fitting then that Joaquin Niemann would emerge the winner, in a playoff over Talor Gooch, to pick up his eighth career LIV Golf victory, the most of any player since the nascent circult launched in 2022.

Niemann shot a closing 67 to finish at 12-under 268 for the week at Asiad Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Busan, South Korea. Than hit a crafy gap wedge approach shot on the first playoff hole to set up a easy birdie for the victory.

In the team race, Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers G.C. pulled out the victory, its second of the 2026 season. The team was aided greatly by last minute replacement Travis Smyth, who filled in for the injured Paul Casey and finished tied for eighth on the week.

The overall purse in Korea was $30 million with Niemann earning $4 million. Below is the list of players and complete prize money payouts for the event:

Amid a cloud of uncertainty for LIV Golf, Joaquin Niemann locked up his reputation as its most dependable star with his eighth career victory coming in South Korea Sunday courtesy of a clutch approach shot in a playoff.

Get your June 2026 edition of Golf Digest Middle East here!

LIV Golf’s future had been in question following last month’s news that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund would no longer fund the league after 2026. The circuit headed to Busan where its eighth event of the season began with LIV dropping one of its key live-streaming features.

By the end of the tournament, Chile’s Niemann defeated Talor Gooch in extra holes after a sublime gap wedge from 149 yards to close range allowed him to drain a birdie putt and claim the title. Two-time U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau finished third after cooling off from an initially hot final-day charge.

“I mean, I would love to describe exactly how it feels to be in that situation,” Niemann said of the gap wedge shot in overtime. “But for me, it’s one of the best feelings ever. We practice every day. We wake up and try to get better, try to get the wedge game better, driving, putting. When we get to that moment on a playoff, we know we can deliver and trust what we practice, trust what we’re feeling and just commit to the shot. I love having that pressure, knowing that you’ve got to hit the shot and you win the tournament.”

Niemann and Gooch had carded matching 67s in regulation at the par-70 Asiad Country Club, to finish at 12-under-par 268.

The victory was an anticipated first of the season for Niemann, 27, who recorded five LIV victories last year and two the year prior.

“I just look back to 2025, and it was so easy to win,” Niemann said as he extended his lead for the most wins any LIV player since its inception in 2022. “It just happened. I feel like that’s the way it should be, and I feel like I was forcing everything a little bit too much [in 2026].

“It was fun out there; I really enjoy the feeling of winning again. I love this game. Looking back at today’s round, especially the back nine, I have a big passion for this game. It teaches you every time, how you can improve.

“You’re always learning. You might be in trouble one hole, then the next hole you’re going to hit a heroic shot and make eagle or birdies, and then the next hole it could be something new or different.”

DeChambeau was one shot shy of the playoff following a five-under 65 that was ignited by five birdies in his first 11 holes, only to complete his final seven holes at even par.

“There were times where it felt amazing and times where it just leaked on me a little bit,” DeChambeau said. “I gave myself some chances, just wasn’t my day today.”

DeChambeau’s fellow two-time major winner, Dustin Johnson, (66) was fourth at 10 under.

“Yeah, it’s been a couple years,” Johnson said when asked the last time his game felt this good. “It’s felt close, but it’s like, finally I feel like it’s consistent, like I’m finally driving it like I normally do. So it obviously takes a lot of pressure off the rest of your game. Now I can focus more on my wedges and my irons and chipping and putting.”

Earlier in the week in Korea, DeChambeau was asked about the PIF’s withdrawal from LIV after the 2026 season, to which he answered, “We were surprised that they pulled out as quickly as they did. We didn’t really see that coming. But that’s OK. One door closes, another opens.”

LIV executives have been pitching a new business plan to attract investors and sponsors, reportedly seeking between $250 million and $350 million. A new-look version of LIV Golf would extend equity beyond just the team captains and will have an emphasis on team golf.

The league continues next week with LIV Golf Andalucia at the famed Valderrama course in Spain as the final tune-up for players competing in the U.S. Open.

We here at Golf Digest are unwavering in our belief that golfers are athletes. Heck, we know it based on how athletic modern tour pros are. But Ian Poulter’s latest injury isn’t helping our argument.

The Ryder Cup legend and LIV golfer revealed on Thursday that he recently suffered a torn meniscus. But how he did it made the injury even more unfortunate.

“I tore my meniscus Thursday of Virginia just hopping up two steps,” the 50-year-old Poulter said.

Hey, it sucks getting old.

Ian Poulter says he will require knee surgery at the end of the season after tearing his meniscus at LIV Virginia, "I tore my meniscus Thursday of Virginia just hopping up two steps." pic.twitter.com/OJF45kF6BA

— Chris McKee (@mrmckee) May 28, 2026

But maybe Poulter’s injury is actually helping the Golfers-Are-Athletes movement because not only did he play through the pain—he plans to have surgery in September after the LIV season ends—he shot 10 under that week and finished T-18. And he opened with a 66 in the LIV Korea event on Thursday.

“I just have to be reminding to myself that I can’t go and play paddle tennis or do anything stupid or hop up steps like I did a couple of weeks ago,” Poulter said. “Walking in straight lines and being super sensible is not something I’m used to doing.”

Be careful out there, Ian.

The latest headline in the LIV Golf financial saga came Thursday with news that the league has dropped one of its key live streaming features before this week’s event in Korea.

Sports Business Journal reported that LIV Golf cited a ‘strategic decision’ for the reason that it stopped “Any Shot, Any Time” as it continues to plan for a future without the help of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

The streaming feature allowed subscribers to pay $59.99 for the season—or $8.99 an event—to have access to what the title suggests, every shot from any player at any time. LIV Golf is working on refunding customers who purchased the platform.

A source told Sports Illustrated Thursday that Mobii, the company behind the streaming technology, has not been paid for months. It’s not clear if it was Mobii or LIV Golf who scrubbed the feature, but it will not be available for the remainder of the season.

RELATED: Here’s the prize money breakdown at LIV Golf Korea

LIV Golf is at Asaid Country Club in Korea this week—where Bryson DeChambeau, Scott Vincent and Charles Howell III lead after Round 1—its eighth tournament of the season. Jon Rahm, the season points leader, tied for second place two weeks ago at the PGA Championship. The league only has five regular season events remaining before the team championship in Michigan ends the tumultuous year in late August.

After news broke just after the Masters in April that LIV Golf would not have PIF funding beyond this year, the New Orleans event scheduled for late June at Bayou Oaks at City Park was postponed, saying that a new fall date would be targeted. However, there has been no movement on that and it is not mentioned on the LIV Golf website schedule.

CEO Scott O’Neil contends that the league will continue after this year in some form. In the past weeks headlines have ranged from LIV Golf potentially being reduced to a 10-event schedule, to it seeking $250 million from investors, to it potentially laying the groundwork for filing for bankruptcy.
