The Englishman finished on -16, pulling clear of 2025 Staysure Legends Tour Order of Merit winner and defending Barbados Legends champion Scott Hend, who carded a closing 69 to finish runner-up on -14 after leading at the end of round two.

2014 Ryder Cup player Jamie Donaldson secured third place on -11 following a composed and consistent final round, while his Ryder Cup teammate Stephen Gallacher and Sweden’s Johan Edfors shared fourth at -10.

Locked together for much of the day, Owen and Hend went head-to-head through the front nine, with little separating the pair, but a three-birdie burst on the back nine proved the difference as the Englishman edged clear.

“I just tried to stay calm,” said Owen. “I knew we were all there or thereabouts, but I wasn’t exactly sure of the scores. I just thought, ‘keep up with him and start making some putts.’

“I rolled one in, then 13 is always a tricky hole, it’s like the bogey hole on this golf course – and I holed a lovely putt there. Scott [Hend] just missed his, and then again on 14 we both hit decent shots but I was the one who made the putt. Three in a row just gave me that little bit of a gap.”

That run gave Owen the control he needed, and he never looked back as Hend was forced to chase over the closing stretch.

The victory continues an excellent run of form for Owen, who claimed the MCB Mauritius Legends at the end of 2025 and arrived in Barbados fresh from a top 10 finish at last week’s Senior PGA Championship.

“I know what I can do,” he said. “I proved it in Mauritius, I proved it last week and I’ve proved it again here. My game’s good – I’ve just got to keep doing the same things.”

Further down the leaderboard, James Kingston and David Drysdale shared sixth place at -9, while Thomas Gögele and Van Phillips were tied eighth on -8. Henrik Stenson, whi was making his Staysure Legends Tour debut, finished in a tie for 20th at -4.

The Staysure Legends Tour now takes a short break before returning in June for the Costa Navarino Legends Trophy in Greece.

The ISPS HANDA Senior Open will return to Royal Porthcawl in 2027 as the Welsh Government renews its support of the Championship.

Europe’s only Senior Major Championship will visit the South Wales venue for the fourth time when the 40th edition of the ISPS HANDA Senior Open takes place from July 22-25, 2027.

The venue offers stunning views across Swansea Bay to the Gower Peninsula and offers a true test of golf. It has previously hosted prestigious Championships such as the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, The Amateur Championship and the Walker Cup.

The ISPS HANDA Senior Open was held at Royal Porthcawl for the first time in 2014, four years after the country hosted its first Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor Resort.

Germany’s Bernhard Langer, the most successful player in Senior Major Championship history, triumphed by an incredible 13 shots ahead of Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie, before winning for a second time at Royal Porthcawl in 2017.

In 2023 it was another German, Alex Čejka, who defeated Pádraig Harrington in a play-off as he landed his third Senior Major Championship title on a dramatic day in punishing conditions at Royal Porthcawl.

A back-nine of 30 shots saw the 2014 Ryder Cup player edge out another member of Paul McGinley’s victorious European team, Stephen Gallacher, by a single shot after the Scot’s superb 65.

Standing on the 18th fairway tied at -12 with Gallacher, with a play-off looking likely, Donaldson struck a 5-iron from 205 yards to three feet to move one clear.

When Gallacher’s lengthy birdie try slid by, a second Staysure Legends Tour title – and a second on Spanish soil after he claimed the Champions UK European Senior Masters at La Manga in November – was his.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Donaldson, who only turned 50 in October and has made an impressive start to his Staysure Legends Tour career. “I played great today and I had to, given that Stevie’s shot an amazing round as well. The shot on 18th was a tricky one – you’ve got to take a club that’s only just going to make it to the hole if you hit it perfectly, which luckily I did.

“I hit a nice draw in there, one bounce and it was nice to see it next to the hole. It would have been even nicer if it had been a tap in, but it’s nice to leave yourself a little fiddly little one down the hill. When it went in it was amazing.

“Stevie is a really good friend of mine. You want him to birdie the last, then you battle it out in a play-off, but it’s a little bit easier if he doesn’t. You want people to beat you playing their best golf. He shot seven-under today, and I just happened to shoot eight to pip him by one. So a really good day all round and I’m looking forward to celebrating. Any time you win it’s special.”

Overnight leaders, Thomas Bjørn and home favourite Miguel Ángel Jiménez, finished third and fourth, respectively, after being unable to keep up with the leading duo. Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg was T5 after a 69, alongside 2025 Order of Merit winner Scott Hend – who made an electric start and held the lead midway through the final round before fading late on.

The top-10 was rounded off by Swedish duo Joakim Haeggman and Johan Edfors, Denmark’s Anders Hansen and English pair Craig Farrelly and Greg Owen.

The Staysure Marbella Legends is the first event of the season for the Staysure Legends Tour in 2026. The Tour now has a two-month break, before the Senior PGA Championship, followed by the Barbados Legends hosted by Ian Woosnam.

With a new title sponsor and events staged across the UK and Ireland, Europe, America, the Caribbean, Middle East and Asia, the 2026 Staysure Legends Tour calendar underlines its truly global reach and growing international stature.

The season kicks off in February in Marbella, at Aloha, which includes home favourites José María Olazábal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez, before a return to Barbados at the end of April, where the Tour will visit the spectacular Apes Hill resort for a tournament hosted by Masters champion and 2006 Ryder Cup captain, Ian Woosnam.

American Bo Van Pelt wins Staysure PGA Seniors Championship hosted by Colin Montgomerie at Trump International – Legends Tour / Getty Images

The Tour’s flagship event, the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, will once again be hosted by another household name and former Ryder Cup captain – Colin Montgomerie – who will resume host duties at the magnificent Trump International Scotland in Aberdeen. The August event will be the first professional tournament to be played on the New Course, marking a significant milestone for both the venue and Scottish golf.

The Major season will begin with the Senior PGA Championship in Florida in April, followed by the US Senior Open in Ohio in July, before culminating in the ISPS HANDA Senior Open at Gleneagles in Scotland. Hosted at the iconic 2014 Ryder Cup venue, Gleneagles offers a historic and fitting stage for one of the most celebrated championships in the senior game, reinforcing the Tour’s connection to the sport’s most storied venues.

The Els Club Vilamoura, Portugal, Ernie Els Designed

Further highlights include a co-sanctioned PGA Tour Champions event in Portugal at the end of July that will see many global stars playing at the Els Club in Vilamoura.

The tour will also return to the Middle East, having last visited the region in 2018 following back-to-back Sharjah Senior Golf Masters at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club. The venue for this year is still to be confirmed.

Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand in action during the second round of the Sharjah Senior Masters played at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club on March 9, 2018 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
David Adams, Managing Director of the Staysure Legends Tour, said: “We’re incredibly excited to announce our 2026 schedule and to begin this new era as the Staysure Legends Tour. The breadth of the calendar, the quality of the venues and the global nature of the Tour reflect how far it has come. With tournaments across the UK and Ireland, Europe, America and Asia, encompassing three senior Majors and world-class destinations, 2026 promises to be a landmark season.”

Ryan Howsam, Chairman of both Staysure and the Staysure Legends Tour, added: “The Staysure Legends Tour represents the very best of the game’s experience and competitive spirit. Aligning Staysure with the Tour allows us to support a global sporting platform built on trust, quality and long-term ambition. The strengthened schedule and new identity reflect the direction of travel and the opportunities ahead.”

The announcement follows an outstanding 2025 season, which saw Australian Scott Hend, a multiple winner on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour, claim the season-long Order of Merit title after a dominant year.

The year also saw a number of rookies coming into contention alongside established names, underlining the depth, competitiveness and evolving profile of the Tour. This included the likes of Ryder Cup stars Jamie Donaldson, Stephen Gallacher and David Howell, as well as established DP World Tour stalwarts Johan Edfors, Anthony Wall, David Drysdale and Steve Webster, plus Darren Fichardt, who was crowned Barry Lane Rookie of the Year in 2025 after a stellar season competing on both the Legends Tour and the DP World Tour.

With Ryder Cup pedigree, Major-winning talent, emerging contenders and world-class global venues across Europe, America and Asia, the 2026 Staysure Legends Tour is poised to deliver another year of compelling storylines and elite competition. Further additions to the 2026 schedule will be confirmed in due course.

Having held a five-shot lead at one stage of the back nine, the Englishman needed a birdie on the final hole to edge out a charging Darren Fichardt and overhaul Jeev Milkha Singh’s 17-under-par clubhouse lead for an emotional first win on the Legends Tour. A pinpoint approach and two putts on the par-five 18th ensured the Nottingham man was able to claim a first Legends Tour title at the 40th time of asking.

Two-time champion Peter Baker ended up fourth on -15 after a creditable defence of his title. A group of four players tied for fifth place on -13, including 2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell, Ryder Cup star Stephen Gallacher, recent Legends Tour winner Andrew Marshall and Q-School graduate Craig Farrelly.

Welsh duo Jamie Donaldson and Mark Mouland – at very different ends of their Legends Tour careers – rounded off the top-10 in the final event of a dramatic season that has seen no less than eight first-time winners.

Owen has been a hugely consistent player since his first full season in 2023 and after a number of near misses, this long-overdue victory was clearly a great relief for the former British Masters champion.

Starting the day one off the lead at -11 Owen made a dream start, reeling off four consecutive birdies to quickly take control of the tournament. With precision iron-play and assured putting, he added further birdies at holes six, nine, 10, 13 and 14 to reach -20 and the tournament seemed over.

But after a four-putt on 15 and another bogey on 17, Owen’s lead evaporated as Fichardt and Singh found the late birdies needed to turn the event on its head. With Singh birdieing two of the last three to get in the clubhouse at -17, Owen stood on the 18th tee tied for the lead, with playing partner Fichardt just one back.

Both men found the fairway and hit superb approaches – which meant that Fichardt needed to hole his eagle putt to force Owen to hole his. It agonisingly slipped by and Owen was afforded the luxury of two putts for the tournament.

Darren Fichardt – Barry Lane Rookie of the Year Award – Getty Images

For Fichardt, there was the consolation of securing a top-10 finish in the Order of Merit and the Barry Lane Rookie of the Year award. The South African only turned 50 in May and has played just eight events on the Legends Tour, mixing seniors golf with the main DP World Tour where he’s played 17 times and even claimed a T5 at the BMW PGA Championship.

He claimed victory at the Vattanac Legends Championship Legacy Edition in Cambodia, lost to Bo Van Pelt in a play-off at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship and was also second in his first Legends Tour event, the OFX Irish Legends.

“I saw Barry’s wife before I teed off and she explained to me about the Barry Lane Rookie of the Year award,” said Fichardt. “It’s a very special thing and I told her it would be amazing for me to win it. I knew Barry really well and he was an amazing guy. It’s a great initiative and I’m very, very proud to have won the trophy.”

“Greg played so well today,” Fichardt added. “I was just trying to secure second really but then suddenly it got interesting after he four-putted. I managed to get close but just overread the putt on 18. I’m very happy for Greg, though.

“I did the Desert Swing at the start of the year on the main Tour and everything needed a lot of work. So I took a bit of time off and then by the time I turned 50, everything just came together. I think playing Legends Tour really boosted my confidence – being the oldest guy playing the DP World Tour is not always nice. But then I come out here and I’m the youngest. So, there’s quite a shift. I’m very proud of the season I’ve had.”

With Owen claiming the MCB Mauritius Legends, Scott Hend already having sewn up the Order of Merit and Fichardt claiming the Barry Lane Rookie of the Year, the race for a top-10 or top 20 finish in the Order of Merit – to secure a Tour card for next year – was still holding attention for many players with so much at stake for 2026.

Top-10 in the 2025 Order of Merit are guaranteed the full playing schedule, with the added bonus of automatic entry into all three Senior Majors – the Senior Open, the Senior US Open and the Senior PGA Championship – as well as a lucrative co-sanctioned PGA Tour Champions event in Portugal.

Owen’s win catapulted him into the top-10, and there was real drama on the bubble as Adilson da Silva was edged out into 11th place by Andrew Marshall and David Drysdale who both managed decisive birdies on holes 17 and 18 to book the full complement of playing opportunities for next season.

Those in the top-20 meanwhile, will have full Legends Tour playing rights plus entry into the Senior Open and the Senior PGA Championship.

The Legends Tour returns in 2026 with Qualifying School taking place in January and the first event of the new season – the Staysure Marbella Legends.

Fichardt, the overnight leader heading into the final day, delivered a controlled performance built on patience – and a brilliant closing stretch that included decisive birdies on 15, 16 and 17 – to secure a maiden Legends Tour win. With rounds of 67, 64 and a flawless closing 66, his consistency across all three days proved decisive as he overhauled a charging Scott Hend and a stellar group of players behind him.

A trio shared third place at -15: Ryder Cup stars Jamie Donaldson and Jarmo Sandelin, plus Italy’s Emanuele Canonica. Australian Mark Brown and England’s Matt Cort were a further shot back at –14 after both carded superb rounds of 66.

Order of Merit leader Scott Hend looked set to claim a third title of the season, having taken charge with spectacular eagles on both the 8th and the 15th. He reached –19 with another birdie on 17 and a play-off seemed likely, but a costly three-putt bogey on 18 dropped him back and handed Fichardt the opportunity to close out the tournament with a par at the last.

Reflecting on his first Legends Tour title, Fichardt admitted the overwhelming emotion was relief. “I’ve won on most of the Tours I’ve played, so I’ve ticked those boxes — but to get my first win on the Legends Tour is unbelievable. This is my first one, and hopefully the first of many.

“I started really badly on the front nine — I was shocking. I got the wind wrong every single time. But I said to my wife ‘it’s the last six holes that count’. I made a really solid up-and-down on 14, then a great birdie on 15, holed an amazing putt on 16, and 17 was tidy too.”

Watching Hend surge ahead added tension. “I knew he’d eagled 15 to get to 18-under… I thought if I could get to 19-under, I might sneak a play-off. When I realised I only needed two putts for the win, I was relieved. Scott’s a fierce competitor — when he smells the lead, he doesn’t hold back.

“I feel like this has been coming. I should have closed out the Staysure PGA Seniors —I was fighting tendinitis on the last six holes and couldn’t swing freely. I lost it there. Then at the OFX Irish Legends Open, James Kingston came in hot—like I did today—and birdied the last to beat me by one. So it’s definitely been coming. I knew I could win, but crossing the line is something else. It’s very satisfying.”

For Hend, there was at least the consolation of him claiming the 2025 Legends Tour Order of Merit title, with one event to spare. The Australian has enjoyed a stellar season that has included wins at the Barbados Legends hosted by Ian Woosnam and the European Legends Cup hosted by José María Olazábal, along with four other top-five finishes.

“Being paired with Bakes [Peter Baker] today, I knew if I could finish ahead of him I’d keep control going into Mauritius,” he said. “Fortunately the lead is now big enough that I’ve secured the Order of Merit. It’s a nice feeling. I’m disappointed not to win today, but the main goal was achieved. I set little goals throughout the year — finishing top-10, then getting a win, and then winning the Order of Merit. I like trophies, and I want to keep collecting them.”

Donaldson’s tidy 68 kept him in the hunt for most of the afternoon, while Sandelin — the first-round leader — continued his excellent form across all three rounds with a steady 69 in round three. With a front-nine 31, Canonica delivered one of the rounds of the day – a brilliant 65 to secure a top-three finish and move into the top-20 of the Order of Merit.

The Legends Tour now moves on to Mauritius for the final tournament of the season, the MCB Mauritius Legends.

English duo Peter Baker and Anthony Wall both finished a shot back at -11, with Andrew Marshall and overnight leader Phillip Archer at -10 on a day of low scoring at the Sir Nick Faldo-designed Vattanac Golf Resort.

South Africa’s Keith Horne – a winner at the Reignwood Legends Championship in July – led with six to play but was forced to settle for a share of sixth place, alongside first-round leader Greg Owen.

For Drysdale, it was a special day. A brilliant birdie at the last got him into the clubhouse at -12, one ahead of Wall who had just set the target at -11. The Scot then had to endure a nerve-wracking wait to see if his 19-year wait for a win – spanning 576 DP World Tour and 14 Legends Tour events – was at an end.

“Vattanac Legends Championship winner sounds fantastic,” said Drysdale. “It’s been a long time coming, but it feels amazing. I played great today and I’m delighted to get it done. I felt pretty calm and was just trying to stay focused and hit one good shot after another.

“I didn’t get off to a great start, but then I found my rhythm and hit some big shots into the par-fives on the back nine. The one on 13 was huge for me. I hit a great drive and had a good number, so hit 3-hybrid right at it – left me about an eight-footer for eagle which I holed. And the one into 18 is the sort of shot you dream of hitting. Almost made a three but delighted with a four to finish.”

Originally scheduled to move on to Vietnam this week, there will now be back-to-back Legends Tour events at Vattanac Golf Resort, as play moves from the East to West Course for the Vattanac Legends Championship Legacy Edition.

Playing in just his second tournament after turning 50 over the summer, the Welshman – a six-time winner across both the DP World Tour and HotelPlanner Tour – shot a superb closing 67 at La Manga Club in Murcia, Spain, to finish at -11 and edge out Mikael Lundberg, Thomas Gögele and Van Phillips.

Overnight leader Michael Campbell faded on the back-nine with a series of untimely bogeys and finished in a tie for fifth place at -8 alongside defending champion Simon Griffiths and fellow Englishman Matt Cort.

Swedish Ryder Cup duo Jarmo Sandelin and Joakim Haeggman, along with Adilson da Silva and Dutchman Maarten Lafeber – who matched Donaldson’s low round of 67 – were a shot further back at -7.

“It’s fantastic,” said Donaldson afterwards. “I’ve had a great week and it was nice to play so well today and birdie the last to pip them to it. The plan all week was to take advantage of the par-fives, get through the par-threes and pick up shots where I can on the fours. I did that perfectly today. I was really happy with the way I played.

“Early in the round I wasn’t trying to push too much, just wanted to let it happen. I tried to stay calm and stick to the plan of just hitting fairways and know I’ll have chances and that’s what I did. I got off to a strong start, and then it kind of snowballed in my direction as I made more birdies around the turn.

“I’m really pleased to have finished so strongly, and although it’s a shame I bogeyed 17, I bounced back really well with a great drive on 18 and then a solid 5-iron into the heart of the green. I hit a terrible first putt but luckily the pace was good and I got to -11.

“I played Italy and finished 17th, and I remember thinking that it was quite difficult because there’s so many guys out here that may not hit the ball as long as guys on the DP World Tour but they still play really, really good golf, and they’re very, very good at scoring. The scoring in Italy was really good and I knew I’d have to play some golf if I want to win tournaments out here. Luckily, I managed to do that this week.”

The Legends Tour now moves on to Asia with the Vattanac Legends in Cambodia taking place in two weeks’ time.

Just a week after the Asian Tour’s International Series Cambodia, a $2 million tournament, was cancelled due to “recent developments in the region,” Cambodia will now host a new international golf event later this year.

The International Series Cambodia, which was set to take place in partnership with the Royal Group, was called off in a joint statement emphasising compassion and support for those affected by ongoing regional challenges. Organisers expressed hope for future opportunities to bring world-class golf to the Kingdom.

Now, the over-50s Legends Tour has announced the inaugural Vattanac Legends Championship, set for 21–23 November 2025 at Phnom Penh’s Vattanac Golf Resort. The event will be the first stop in a $1.9 million trilogy of Legends Tour tournaments across Cambodia, Vietnam, and Mauritius to end their season.

The tournament is backed by the Vattanac Group, with executives highlighting its potential to boost national pride, inspire youth, and position Cambodia as a growing destination for international sports and tourism, despite the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia having flared up again recently, with the latest violence being among the worst in years.

The Australian’s final-round 67 and -16 total was good enough for a third Legends Tour title and a commanding lead in the 2025 Order of Merit.

“It feels great to win – every win is a great thing,” said Hend, who claimed victory at the Barbados Legends, hosted by Ian Woosnam, earlier in the year.

“At the start of the day I had in my mind that if I went out and shot four-under then it would be very hard for the guys behind to catch me. I felt I was playing pretty boring golf out there, not going for many pins, just trying to make lots of pars. Credit to Alan, my caddie – we had a game plan out there and we stuck to it.

“I flushed it down the first and knew that Adi was three behind me – so I knew that if I could shoot four-under he would have to play exceptionally well to catch me. It was nice to birdie 15, 16 and 17 to put a bit of space between him and myself.

“It was a really good stretch there and I said to Alan that I’ve never been able to walk down 18 with a four-shot lead, so that was nice to do.”

Brazilian Da Silva, who won this event 12 months ago, birdied the last to card a bogey-free 66, close to within two and secure second place, but once Hend had rattled off three birdies in a row in the middle of the back nine the result was never really in doubt.

Scotland’s Gallacher – the only player in the field to card three rounds in the 60s – eagled the fifth and added further birdies at the 6th, 8th, 10th and 13th to get to -12. But the 2014 Ryder Cup player was unable to find the putts needed to apply more pressure to Hend and had to settle for third place as he seeks a maiden Legends Tour win in his first season.

Tournament host, José María Olazábal, who despite carrying a shoulder injury that at one stage threatened his participation in the event, finished T15 after shooting 68-68 over the weekend.

The man himself was delighted with both his day’s work and the week as a whole. “It wasn’t pretty, but I fought hard and managed to put together a solid round. There were not many putts because I didn’t play well and missed a lot of greens, but in the end I got through the round without making a single bogey.

“What I’m most happy and satisfied about is that we’ve been able to bring a tournament of this calibre to Gipuzkoa, to Basozábal in this case. There’s been a huge effort from so many people, and everyone has been pleasantly surprised by the course and how everything has gone. So I’m very satisfied.”

The Legends Tour now moves on to Germany in two weeks’ time for the WINSTONgolf Senior Open near Hamburg. Van Phillips won the event in 2024, beating Adilson da Silva and Phillip Archer in a play-off.
