Kipp Popert and Daniel Slabbert both secured dominant victories in the Gross and Net events at the G4D Tour Series Finale @ Rolex Grand Final at Club de Golf Alcanada.

Golf Saudi ambassador Popert made it back-to-back Series Finale wins after easing to a seven-shot triumph at the Alcúdia venue, and the top-ranked disability golfer is now a 16-time winner as both an individual and team member on the G4D Tour since its inception in 2022.

Popert, who held a seven shot lead going into the final day following rounds of 69-75 over the opening two rounds, maintained that advantage after closing with a one under par 71 to end the week on one under par, with New Zealand’s Lachlan Wood in solo second.

The 27-year-old, who was on the sidelines for the first half of the year following foot surgery, has now won three times on the G4D Tour since his return, with victories coming at the Amgen Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship before his win in Spain.

“I said before my round I just wanted to finish the tournament under par and it was fairly windy today,” he said. “Me and my caddie worked really well together and hit the right spots.

“It was nice to make a couple of birdies coming in. I was very chuffed and I enjoy the pressure. I’m enjoying getting to do this full time at the moment and I’m putting very well at the moment. I struck the putts a lot better today.

“I had surgery at the start of the year so I at one point I didn’t know if I would ever play golf again. I’m extremely grateful to be given this opportunity and I want to continue to keep growing this side of the sporty as much as possible.

“I’ve won back-to-back now so I’m pleased with that and at two different locations.”

"Disabled golf can really provide opportunities for the disabled community"

Kipp Popert has aims not just for more wins but also to progress the sport more widely after this year's G4D Tour Series Finale #G4DTour pic.twitter.com/E2WrKtDlVe

Slabbert ran out a ten-shot victor in the Net event to scoop his second G4D Tour title of the season after he earned a breakthrough victory at the Betfred British Masters in August.

The South African carded rounds of 76-75-80 at Club de Golf Alcanada seeing him build on a four-shot overnight lead to eventually win by ten from Irishman Mark Clougherty.

Slabbert, who is a left leg amputee, was delighted to come out on top, and says his accuracy off the tee was the key across the three days.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” he said. “It’s a great feeling.

“This week there were some great putts that I made and today a couple of putts that amazed me as well. Overall, my iron play and driver was very good this week, and the key thing was probably hitting fairways.

“It’s been a proper feeling of tournament golf this week, so I’m happy to get it done.”

Kipp Popert will be looking to end his season in style when he tees it up in the G4D Tour Series Finale @ Rolex Grand Final this week.

The season-ending event will be played over 54 holes at Club de Golf Alcanada from October 30 – November 1, with two champions set to be crowned – one gross winner and one net winner.

Golf Saudi ambassador Popert has enjoyed another outstanding season on the G4D Tour, as he returned from foot surgery to win twice in successive weeks.

Popert, who sits atop the World Ranking For Golfers with Disability (WR4GD), produced a flawless final round to win the G4D Tour @ Amgen Irish Open at The K Club, before winning again the very next week in the G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, doing so for a fourth consecutive year.

The 27-year-old will be looking to defend the gross title he won at the Series Finale last year and is excited by the prospect of doing so at a new venue for 2025.

“It would be amazing,” he said. “It’s a little different this year at a new venue. It looks a real test and I’m hoping for a good result. I’ll do my best.

“From the perspective of having surgery on my left foot in January, to miss five months of golf was really challenging, so to get out to Mallorca and have this opportunity now to put in a good performance will be very special.

“It feels great to be fit again and to enjoy some results recently to be proud of. I won’t say I’ve been surprised by my good form, as I have worked really hard to get there, but the stars have certainly all aligned for me and that has been fantastic.

“My game feels very good and my foot feels very good. I feel grateful to be in good form after such a challenging time earlier in the year. I’m enjoying all my practise and can’t wait to play in Spain.”

Popert will face tough competition in the gross event with G4D Open men’s champion Brendan Lawlor from Ireland and G4D Open women’s champion Daphne van Houten from the Netherlands in the field, as well as Australian Lachlan Wood, Englishman Mike Brown – who won the Season Finale in 2023 – and Issa Nlareb from Cameroon who are all inside the world’s top ten.

Competing alongside in the net competition will be former military veteran Irishman Mark Clougherty, Canadian Kelly Masson, who is an above knee amputee and who is currently top of the net World Rankings, Slovenian Marjan Gavez who made his G4D Tour debut earlier this year, and Daniel Slabbert from South Africa, who won in his first start at the G4D Tour @ Betfred British Masters in August.

The G4D Tour was launched in 2022 as a partnership between the DP World Tour and EDGA, formally the European Disabled Golf Association. The G4D player pathway aims to cater for everyone with a disability who wants to play golf, and for many, the G4D Tour is seen as the pinnacle of competition with competitors playing on the same course, in the same week, as the leading Tour professionals on the DP World Tour.

Due to the European Tour group’s ongoing financial support, EDGA has been able to raise awareness, confirm eligibility, organise tournaments, and deliver golf development and coach education worldwide.

The Golf Saudi ambassador, the world’s top-ranked golfer with a disability, held a seven-shot overnight lead after an opening seven-under-par 66 and backed it up with a 71 on Tuesday to complete a resounding eight-shot victory at nine under.

Popert, who has cerebral palsy, has now won 15 G4D Tour titles as both an individual and team member after arriving in Surrey on the back of victory at the Amgen Irish Open last week.

After missing the first half of the season following foot surgery, the Englishman’s form in the past two weeks has further underlined his dominance on the G4D Tour since its inception in 2022.

“It was a really slow start to the year with the operation,” said Popert.

“People who have been out for whatever reason understand what it is like to come back and you just appreciate everything a lot more. It was my 12th operation so I have had practice with that. I am just loving being able to do what I love again. I am clearly playing well, so I am very pleased.”

Lachlan Wood was the other player in the ten-strong mixed field to break par across the two-day event after he closed out with a 72 – featuring an eagle and three birdies – to finish second on one under.

After an 80 in the first round, Juan Postigo Arce bounced back with a 72 of his own on Tuesday to finish solo third at six over.

Issa Nlareb, who contracted bacterial meningitis which led to him losing both legs and all but two of the fingers on his right hand while competing on the Alps Tour in 2018, finished sixth at ten over after rounds of 78 on both days.

The G4D Tour season continues next week at the FedEx Open de France, with some of the leading players from the Net world rankings taking part at Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche.

As a winner on the G4D Tour in the 2025 campaign, Popert is guaranteed to feature at the season-ending G4D Tour @ Rolex Grand Final which takes place in Mallorca next month.

The Englishman returns to defend his title, once again, at Wentworth

Kipp Popert is aiming for a record-breaking four-peat at this year’s G4D Tour at the BMW PGA Championship as he looks to defend his title on the West Course at Wentworth.

The G4D Tour was launched in 2022 as a partnership between the DP World Tour and EDGA, formerly the European Disabled Golf Association. The G4D player pathway is designed for anyone with a disability who wants to play golf, and for many, it represents the pinnacle of competition, giving players the chance to compete on the same course and in the same week as the DP World
Tour professionals.

Popert, who has cerebral palsy, underwent foot surgery in January 2025, yet still arrives at the BMW PGA Championship on the back of winning the U.S. Adaptive Open for a third straight year. In doing so, he became only the fourth male player in history to win the same USGA championship three times in a row.

The World Number One has already won three times around the West Course in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and since the launch of the G4D Tour in 2022, the 27-year-old has been the dominant force, collecting 13 titles.

12 months ago, the Golf Saudi ambassador defeated close friend Brendan Lawlor by four shots with a tournament total six under par after rounds of 71 and 69.

In this year’s edition Daphne van Houten, who claimed the women’s title at The G4D Open in May, will be in the ten-player line-up at Wentworth alongside Ireland’s Brendan Lawlor, Australia’s Lachlan Wood, England’s Mike Browne, Cameroon’s Issa Nlareb, Canada’s Kurtis Barkley, American Ryanne Jackson, Spain’s Juan Postigo and France’s Thomas Colombel, who was in contention at The G4D Open earlier this year.

The field will be competing for a place in the season-ending G4D Tour @ Rolex Grand Final, which takes place at Club de Golf Alcanada in Mallorca for the first time. The event will feature a ten-player line-up that includes Gross and Net winners from the 2024-25 G4D Tour season. Six players will contest the Gross competition, with four in the Net event.

The 27-year-old Golf Saudi ambassador started the final round at the K Club seven shots back of Australian Lachlan Wood, who had opened with a two under 70 on Sunday.

However, while most of the field struggled with the blustery conditions in Co. Kildare, Popert made four birdies in a bogey-free final round to end the week one over par and two shots clear of Ireland’s Brendan Lawlor.

“It feels amazing, to play the way I did today when I wasn’t playing my best yesterday,” he said.

“I didn’t think I’d be the winner after yesterday’s round, but my dad told me to press on yesterday. I woke up this morning and did just that.

“I was looking forward to the third hole today. I hit an eight iron there yesterday just right of the green and couldn’t find the ball. Today I was so determined to birdie it.”

The G4D Tour returned to the Island of Ireland for the first time since the 2022 event at Mount Juliet Estate, Thomastown, which was won by England’s Mike Brown.

After tasting victory in the country for the first time, Popert praised Golf Ireland’s involvement in making the 2025 edition happen.

“Golf Ireland and what Brendan has done for the last seven years, he really is the pioneer for it, to provide more opportunities for us,” the 27-year-old added. “I am extremely grateful to them and they’re an example for golfing federations to follow.

“I couldn’t miss this week at the K Club. I remember watching Rory McIlroy hit a three-wood here and absolutely loved it. I’ve got Irish relatives who came out to watch today, so I always like Ireland.”

After winning four times last season on the G4D Tour, Popert endured a slow start to 2025 after undergoing surgery on his foot.

Now, with the G4D Tour heading to Wentworth next week for the G4D @ BMW PGA Championship, the Englishman is looking to kick in the remaining events of the season.

“I’ve got Wentworth in a week and Q School tomorrow; I’ll try and get through four rounds there,” he added

“I had an operation at the start of the year which took me out for a long time and the foot is still a bit sore.

“Honestly, I am just enjoying golf a lot more after not being able to walk at the start of the year. This is my passion, and I want to make sure there are opportunities for the next generation.”

Wood ends the week in solo third on seven over par, six shots ahead of Englishman Thomas Blizzard, who finishes on eleven over par and in fourth.

The G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship will take place from September 8-9 where Popert will be eyeing a fourth career victory at Wentworth.

Welcome to your September edition of Golf Digest Middle East for 2025.

This month’s cover story dives into Keegan Bradley, who now faces the biggest test of his career as U.S. Ryder Cup captain. Bradley has thrived in the heat before, but leading Team USA places him under a different kind of pressure, one that could define his legacy.

We also track the latest developments from the PIF Global Series. After a headline-making stop in London, all eyes now shift to Houston as the series continues to shape the female game.

On the G4D Tour, Kipp Popert continues to push boundaries in the game. Already one of the most decorated players in the adaptive space, he now has his sights set on a fourth straight title at Wentworth.

Closer to home, Karim Salaam is doing his part to keep golf alive in Lebanon. With resources scarce and challenges everywhere, Salaam’s work is both rebuilding a sport and protecting a nation’s pride.

In our “How To Play” section, European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald shares a bunker technique that will help you eliminate fat shots and play with confidence under pressure. Plus, Michael Thorbjornsen’s swing is under the microscope in our latest analysis.

For course lovers, we spotlight Bethpage Black, one of golf’s most demanding tests, and break down what makes a great matchplay venue. Then, from the brutal stretches of Bethpage to the artistry of Cypress Point, we uncover the elements that separate good from great!

All this and plenty more in the September 2025 edition of Golf Digest Middle East.

The issue is again free to our loyal audience. You can scroll through the ISSUU link provided here or download it to your favourite device for later.

Brendan Lawlor and Daphne van Houten secured G4D Open victories for a second time after both eased to memorable successes at Woburn.

Irishman Lawlor, who won the inaugural staging of the Championship in 2023, again lifted the men’s trophy after a one-over-par final round of 73 for a 54-hole total of three-over 219 and a four-stroke win over Lachlan Wood from Australia.

— DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) May 17, 2025

Van Houten enjoyed her own piece of G4D Open history as The Netherlands player defended the women’s title she won 12 months ago thanks to an 11-stroke victory over Germany’s Jennifer Sräga after posting a 250 total.

In glorious conditions over the Duchess Course, Lawlor shone from the start of the final round while his closest rivals faltered. The 28-year-old, who has a rare condition called Ellis–van Creveld syndrome, made two birdies in his opening six holes.

Playing partners Thomas Colombel, the left-hander from France, and Danish teenager Frederik Brokfelt-Christiansen, both dropped early shots, with Colombel’s hopes ultimately ended when he carded a triple bogey eight at the 4th after losing a ball off the tee.

Carton House’s Lawlor, who sits third on the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD), produced a composed display with a run of seven straight pars from the 7th and even a double bogey at the 17th failed to take the shine off his success.

Wood, 34, was the player who applied the most pressure to Lawlor. After multiple surgeries on his left leg, Wood impressively made four birdies on the front nine. A double bogey at the par-5 15th proved costly, but Wood held onto the runner-up spot with a closing 71 for seven-over 223 as he built on his tie for fourth place last year. Thomas Blizzard from England and Spain’s Juan Postigo Arce shared third on eight-over 224.

Van Houten – the leading woman at 27th on the WR4GD – enjoyed a comfortable victory to add to her numerous wins on the EDGA Tour.

Born with scoliosis and since faced with other health battles, van Houten, 26, closed with a seven-over 79 which featured birdies at the 10th and 13th. Sräga, 25, was born with Achondroplasia, commonly called short stature, and enjoyed a strong Championship debut having competed for Germany in the European Team Championship last year. England’s Aimi Bullock finished in third place in the women’s event.

Established in 2023, the Championship – held in partnership between The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA (formally the European Disabled Golf Association) – is one of the most inclusive ever staged. The G4D Open featured nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups, with 80 men and women players of both amateur and professional status, aged 18-79, representing 20 countries.

A gross prize was also awarded in each sport class, covering various categories in Standing, Intellectual, Visual and Sitting.

The men’s gross prize winners were as follows:

Intellectual 1: Cameron Pollard, Australia

Intellectual 2: Thomas Blizzard, England

Standing 1: Juan Postigo Arce, Spain

Standing 2: Frederik Brokfelt-Christiansen, Denmark

Standing 3: Brendan Lawlor, Ireland

Sitting 2: Richard Kluwen, The Netherlands

Visual 2: John Eakin, England

The women’s gross prize winners were as follows:

Intellectual 1: Natasha Stasiuk, Canada

Intellectual 2: Michelle Lau, England

Standing 1: Alessandra Donati, Italy

Standing 2: Aimi Bullock, England

Standing 3: Daphne van Houten, The Netherlands

Visual 1: Mette Havnaas, Norway

Visual 2: Charlene Pienaar, South Africa

The establishment of The G4D Open follows on from the inclusion of the Modified Rules of Golf for Players with Disabilities into the Rules of Golf and The R&A and USGA’s on-going administration of the WR4GD.

Popert, the World Number One, held his nerve to claim a one-shot victory over Ireland’s Brendan Lawlor and win The G4D Open in 2024 as the then top two players on the WR4GD had a final round showdown in the sun over the Duchess Course with Popert’s closing two-over-par 74 securing a winning total of one-over 217.

Established in 2023, the Championship – staged in partnership by The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA (formally the European Disabled Golf Association) – is one of the most inclusive ever held.

The G4D Open features nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups, with 80 men and women players of both amateur and professional status competing over Woburn’s renowned Duchess Course. With an age range from 18 to 79, players from 20 countries across the globe are represented, including from Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the USA.

Contested over three days from Thursday to Saturday and across 54 holes of gross stroke play, there will be overall men’s and women’s winners and a gross prize in each of the sport classes which cover various categories in Standing, Intellectual, Visual and Sitting.

Irishman Brendan Lawlor, the inaugural winner in 2023 and runner-up to Popert last year, also takes his place in a world-class field. Lawlor, who has a rare condition called Ellis–van Creveld syndrome, characterised by a shorter stature and shorter limbs, and Popert are among 12 of the world’s top 20 players competing at Woburn. Canadian Chris Willis, born with bone issues in the leg, vertebrae and hand, is also taking part again after finishing third last year.

The Netherlands’ Daphne van Houten will aim to defend the women’s crown, with van Houten among 18 women competing – an increase of seven on last year.

Seven Australian players have made the long journey over to Woburn, including the world-ranked number four Lachlan Wood, and four players from Japan. The English pair of Martine and Heather Gilks, who made history last year as the first mother and daughter duo to play in The G4D Open, again tee up.

Dubai-based Zane Scotland, the former Tour professional, is attending the Championship in his role as a diversity ambassador with The R&A and will support a number of off-course activities taking place during the week at Woburn to promote inclusivity in the sport.

The International Series is set for a groundbreaking moment at the LINK Hong Kong Open, as the World No.1 ranked disabled golfer Kipp Popert will join the field for the 63rd edition of the Asian Tour event.

The eighth of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour calendar marks the first time a golfer with a disability has been included in the tournament lineup, reinforcing the historic event’s 2024 tagline: LINK Hong Kong Open – Open for All.

The 25-year-old Golf Saudi Ambassador’s participation, granted through an exemption by The Hong Kong Golf Club, aligns with the values of The International Series, offering opportunity to golfers on the global stage.

Reflecting on the significance of Popert’s inclusion, Hong Kong Golf Club Captain Andy Kwok said: “The tagline for this year’s championship is ‘Open for All’, so we are delighted to have Kipp, who has excelled on the G4D Tour in recent times, join this world-class field at Fanling.

“His story, like those other sportsmen who compete to such a high standard despite the challenges brought about by disability, is truly inspiring and we will all be cheering him on and wishing him the very best.”

Despite challenges brought about by cerebral palsy and having undergone more than ten surgeries, Popert has risen to the pinnacle of disabled golf and has dominated the DP World Tour’s 2024 G4D Tour season with victories in five of its ten events.

This includes recent wins in his home country England, including the G4D Open in May, the inaugural G4D Tour Nations Cup at Betfred British Masters team event with Heather Gilks in August, and September’s G4D Tour at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

On Wednesday, Popert won the G4D Tour Series Finale at the DP World Tour Championship at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai with an impressive 9-under par 135.

Popert said: “I am very excited to be playing the LINK Hong Kong Open in 2024. I relish the opportunity to continue to prove to myself and others that golfers with disability have the skills and talent to compete professionally. I look forward to visiting Hong Kong and engaging with the fans next week.”

He also addressed the challenges he has faced in his life and golf career to date, adding: “It is a powerful force, being at a disadvantage at the start, because you learn that you have to work hard to achieve what you want. I think it gives you that drive and that work ethic that you can become whatever you want to be in life.

“Just because you have cerebral palsy does not mean you cannot achieve anything you want to, it just means you have got to find your way of doing it, and when you do find a way, and when you come through the setback, you’re going to be a more dominant force, including mentally.”
