Hideki Matsuyama has long been one of the best golfers on the planet, but in that time he’s also earned the reputation for being one of the game’s hardest markers. We’ve seen the Japanese star flail his arms in disgust time and time again at his own shots only to see them end up in good spots. Hey, he’s a perfectionist.

So what happens when he actually hits the perfect shot? We found out.

Playing in the DP World Tour’s Genesis Championship in South Korea, Matsuyama began his second round with a drive down the middle. And then he dropped a wedge shot from about 90 yards into the bottom of the cup for a slam dunk eagle. Have a look:

First of all, what a shot. In fact, it was so good that it damaged the cup:

Second, it’s nice to see Hideki celebrate a shot. Well, sort of. There were at least a couple high-fives in there.

Maybe Matsuyama was keeping his cool because he knew he needed a good round just to stick around for the weekend. But after an opening two-over-par 73, Hideki bounced back with a 68 to comfortably make the cut, placing him five shots behind a logjam at six under that includes Sungjae Im and Alex Fitzpatrick.

In other words, those cups at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club better watch out this weekend.
