“This has got way out of hand!” In between nervous gasps of laughter, these were the only words Stephen Atkinson could get out of his mouth, and who could blame him? At his doorstep stood Thomas Bjorn, Europe’s Ryder Cup captain, holding the actual Ryder Cup.

This surprise of a lifetime for one golf fan was caught on video just a week after Atkinson’s letter to Bjorn went viral. In it, the weekend hacker humorously let the captain know he was withdrawing his name from consideration for Team Europe at the 2018 Ryder Cup this fall. The practical joke spread way beyond Atkinson’s wildest dreams when Bjorn shared the letter on Twitter, but Bjorn showing up to his home really caught him off guard. Atkinson even got a free golf lesson out of the whole deal in his backyard (Nice digs, by the way!) as Bjorn took a look at his swing. Check it out:

Ed’s note: Here’s the original letter, posted by a disconsolate Bjorn on his Twitter feed.

Well played Stephen and again, Bjorn and the European Tour’s outstanding social media team.
