As a nod to the Open Championship’s deep history and heritage, Justin Thomas will wear a white button-down with a navy tie and a navy cardigan on Thursday at Royal Birkdale. That’s right, a button-down, tie and cardigan…to play golf.

Justin Thomas’ Thursday outfit

If you’ve ever looked at photos from golf’s early days you’ve noticed that the sport’s style is rooted in button-down shirts that had hard, starched collars, bold silk ties and thick tweed jackets. While that style has significantly evolved over the years, it’s fun to acknowledge those old-school beginnings with today’s modern fabrics. And that’s precisely what Thomas will do, which is simply genius. The 24-year-old will wear a Polo Golf knit performance woven button-ton shirt that has tons of stretch, along with a merino-blend cardigan ($100), and a knit silk tie ($185).

Thomas’ Friday through Sunday looks are just as solid as his Thursday outfit, highlighted by his Friday ensemble that includes a blush polo with camouflage trousers. With these British Open ensembles, Thomas (and Polo Golf) continue to set the standard for classic golf style with a tastefully modern twist.
